What to take to DDad in hospital?

So my DDad has had pretty major heart surgery today (all went well, fingers crossed)

Am going in to see him tomorrow. He's in intensive care for a few days then on a ward for a few weeks.

DM will take him the necessary bits like toiletries but is there any treats or things I may not have thought of that might be nice?

Obv, I'll ask him as well but wondered if there's anything that might make him more comfortable or cherished, iykwim?

Thanks for any suggestions...

My 80 year old dad had a triple bypass before Christmas.
He appreciated tubs of fresh fruit - such as grapes or pineapple , bottles of flavoured water . A free Metro paper everyday Smile (for the crossword) and a soft towel that he rolled up and held over his surgery scar when he coughed
It was quite a shock to me when I first saw him , he looked so frail but he has made an amazing recovery now

Bose headphones and an iPad with mobile data

my dad loved some pics of the dgc.

My dad appreciated iced water in a flask and decent squash . The tepid tap water was horrible.

Lip balm.

My Dad had heart surgery 3 years ago. He needed lip salve. Ever since he has suffered with feeling cold, so anything soft and snuggly or to keep warm would be helpful. I made my Dad a very soft blanket.

My dad enjoyed those puzzle books you buy in the same area as those magazine racks.
The ones with a mix of puzzles- sudoku, crosswords, word search etc

I'd take a pillow from home and some photos. Possibly a new book or book you've enjoyed and think he'd like.

Oh these are perfect, thank you. Just what I was after.

He'd love all of these ideas - especially pics of the grandkids.

A decent pillow - not massively expensive, supermarket one would do, but it'll be better than the one very flat pillow you usually get as a hospital patient.

Nice cold drink, something he likes.

Sugar free sweets, wine gums, that will be flavoursome and he can have even if he doesn't feel like eating.

Newspaper or magazine

Music player and headphones with his favourite songs on

Honestly headphones- noise cancelling. When he gets on the ward he will need them to sleep.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 04/02/2020 21:34

Slipper socks with grippy bits on the sole.
They will be encouraged to walk around the ward (when they are ready!) And unlikely to be allowed bare foot.
Small radio
A few pens for crosswords
Mints or boiled fruit sweets
Adult colouring book and pencils

Some sort of music device with headphones - intensive care can be very noisy.

When a friend had heart surgery recently we put several of his favourite cd's on to an old mp3 player and he said it really helped him stay sane.
