How does salary work when working in a school?

I'm thinking of applying for some term time only roles. Do you only get paid the months you work or do you get paid once a month? How does annual leave pay get worked out?

Depends on the contract. I work in the private sector and my salary is x and paid monthly, equally.

When looking for this role, some versions of the job in the state sector advertised the salary as x, but pro rata so you actually only got 45 weeks worth of that salary. (Or how many weeks you worked)

If it's a TA type role, you get an hourly rate x hours per week worked x about 45 hours per year, which is the 39 weeks of school term plus statutory holiday entitlement. This is then paid in 12 equal monthly installments.

But as a PP says, it might be framed as an annual salary which is then pro-rated to account for the fact that some of the school holidays are unpaid, in which case, it may say 'annual salary £18k pro-rata' and then it would be 45/52 x £18k.

My salary is worked out based on hours per week (I work reduced hours) x 39 weeks per year, then there is a bit added on to cover annual leave I’m entitled to for that number of hours worked. I’m then paid the annual amount in 12 equal payments.
