What's the weather like?
What should we pack?
Going for 4 nights in a few days to Puerto del Carmen.

Any recommendations for things to do? Places to eat?

Only been in the height of summer before.

Thank you

We went a few weeks ago and spent a day in PDC but didn't stay there.

We had lunch in a restaurant that had a balcony overlooking the marina and it was lovely - the reviews say that the tapas were expensive, but they were meal sized and the food was great. I had a prawns and spinach dish that was honestly one of the nicest things I have ever eaten.

Weather looks good but it does cool down in the evening. What to take depends on how cold you get - many a time DP sits outside a restaurant on an evening in shorts and a t-shirt and I'll have on a maxi dress and a hoodie, with leggings underneath - basically all the warm clothes I have with me.

But the forecast looks like beach weather in the day time Envy. Lots of other nice restaurants around the marina area.

We went in November, it was very windy on some of the days so we needed a hoodie/cardigan in the evenings. The temperature was lovely in the sun but we were cold in the shade so we tended to move around the pool with sun! It rained with thunderstorms on a couple of the days. If we went in November again we'd choose a hotel with heated pools as ours wasn't and the water was freezing, plenty of people around the pool but only the odd child in it!

You definitely need a hoodie or fleece at least for the evenings, and possibly for daytime too weather dependent.

The night thing at Rancho Texas is good fun if you like that sort of thing. (a short taxi ride away).

There are a lot of nice places to eat, but it depends on your preferences. There is a nice 'all you can eat' Chinese place up some grungy looking steps, and also a nice pizza place up some wide wooden steps. Both overlooking the sea.

Puerto Calero just up the coast from PdC is lovely you can get a water taxi between the two (but we've never done that).

At Puerto Calero you can go on a yellow submarine. ££ but interesting if you've never done anything like it.

Timanfaya.

We went in December and it was cooler than now, didn't need coats or jumpers at all so it depends what you're used to.

There's great restaurants, The Little Elm, fantastic home cooked English food, La Cabana in Macher is lovely, Mardeleva on the harbour for seafood, My Kitchen Julius for steaks and meats. We go every December and love it, we stay at the other end of PDC towards Los Pocillos and Matagorda.

Puerto Calero is lovely and you can walk from PDC, there's some zig zaggy steps just past the marina, if you go up those it takes you onto the coastal path. It's a fair walk and a nice one but take lots of water with you. You can also walk the opposite way, past the airport, through Playa Honda and through to Arrecife, long walk but plenty of places to stop for drinks etc., or you could hire bikes.

If you're there over the weekend you could go to the market up in Teguise town on Sundays, quite cheap if you get a bus up there and there's loads of stores - some selling cheap nasty stuff but others selling leather, artisanal stuff, jewellery etc. Also a couple of decent food places there and it's quite a nice town with a lovely square where you can sit and chill - I'd recommend getting there early though as it does get very crowded

My parents are in Playa Blanca now. Weather is beautiful. I recommend Yaiza for a visit and the 2 main Cesar Manrique homes - one is called the CM House Museum and the other is the CM Foundation.

Fluffythefish · 04/02/2020 12:50

We were there this time last year. Weather was mostly pleasant/warm during the day but it was very cold at night. Could have done with warm pjs and an extra jumper. It was lovely though

Another vote for the Cesar Manrique tour.

Went in December and I swam every day, although some family members claimed it was too cold. In PDC, my parents love the Maritoni restaurant.

We got back from Playa Blanca on Saturday and the weather was starting to heat up! It was lovely when we arrived but by the end of the week I'd say it was mid 20's despite it apparently only being 19/20 degrees on the met office wedsite.

Night time was a lot cooler for me though so I would recommend a cardie or hoodies just in case (my brother never needed one)

We went to Timanfaya national park - fire mountain (€12 per adult) and Rancho Texas park which is a zoo and waterpark (€30 per adult, €22 kids) and I'd recommend both, they were fab.
