Period Bloat - Can anything be done?

Acunningruse · 04/02/2020 08:07

Day 2 of my period and I have had to say I will work from home today as quite literally cannot fit into any of my work clothes. Yesterday I was wearing size 10 trousers and today I am wearing size 14 leggings which are uncomfortably tight.

Why does it happen? Can anything be done about it? Do other women have a second wardrobe 2 sizes bigger for this time of the month?!

I drink lots of water and eat reasonably healthily so not sure what else I can do but generally fed up of feeling meh and having a huge tummy (my tummy today looks like it did when I was 6 months pregnant)for 5 days out of every month.

Any tips?
Thanks

I've attached a photo showing the full extent.

I don't understand. If this happens to you, you must know it and therefore have stretchy clothes ready in your wardrobe. I think you are being a bit unreasonable to be honest. I have the same issues but I assure you my bump is MUCH bigger (I'm also much larger than you anyway) but I have clothes for these days. It's horrible. It's uncomfortable and I have no idea how to get rid. You have my sympathy. Bread though...... no bread!

I have the same issue. I don't know the solution to it. I wish I did

Thanks for your reply. Im sorry you suffer with this too. I imagine most women do but no one really talks about it?!

I lost weight last year and so I think the bloating is more pronounced now, and the difference greater as I wear more tailored clothes usually. Clearly I should have kept some of my old stuff!!

I found an old thread on here about pre-menstrual bloating which recommended Aqua ban or other diuretics, but reviews online aren't great so wondering whether or not to give them a go.

I never used to get this. I'm now old and premenopausal and that, apparently, comes with all sorts of lovely side effects like acne and massive bloating. I'm seeing my gyno about what to do about it (probably involving taking something hormonal)

I have the same problem however, since cutting out bread have noticed a difference even during my period. I only eat wholemeal pasta, rice etc

I get this too, it’s really uncomfortable as well. I’m a size 8 and look really pregnant when I’m bloated.

I don’t eat any bread anyway, so I’m not sure what else could be cut out to help.

Water tablets !!! They're called aqua ban and you can get them in boots. Take them 3 or 4 days before you usually get the bloat xx

DailyMailcanfuckthefuckoff · 04/02/2020 09:51

No advice to offer on the bloating, but I sympathise, OP! I also get very bad bloating. I find the best way to hide it is with a floaty dress, empire-line is good for this. A lot of the mid-axi dresses in shops now are a great shape for hiding bloat. I've bought a couple from Zara, River Island, and Wallis.

I bloat too but not as badly as you, I only go up 1 dress size and have a lot of stretchy things available :) I've started skipping periods now using the pill on the advice of my doctor and life is much happier! I'd also recommend (the very VERY sad option of) cutting out bread. White bread is the worst for bloating, more fibre, oats are good for me. Plus the aforementioned water tablets. Good luck and solidarity sympathy!

Yes I am the same. I also look pregnant for 1 day a month.

I use Aqua Ban when I'm bloated through water retention and I think it works.
