Anyone had a balayage? What's the process etc?

I'm having a balayage and hairdresser said it would take 3 hours 😳😳

Just wondering what the process is?

So hair dye first, leave on for x mins then rinse & dry then blonde foils?? Does that sound about right?

The bit that takes the time is that to get a natural, graduated effect, they have to take tiny sections and backcomb half way down then apply the colour to that

If you’re having a root shadow / lift / colour too they’ll do that separately but the bit that takes the time is the actual balayage

Ask them if they do olaplex and get that too if they do (it’s a hair treatment and is excellent)

Mine took 5! That included a toner and cut though. I regret it though. Only looks good when curled and second time she went too blonde.

Mine did dye and foils simultaneously.

No. It’s one process, they don’t dye then dry your hair then start again.

It may be better to watch a video on YouTube which may be easier to understand

I still have loads of brown come through my brown streaks..yet the bottom is quite blonde
I said to dh It looks like balayage...but I don’t have the curls to show it off properly

Mine took about 3-4 hours, the 4 hour one she dyed my roots as well.

They backcomb all of your hair first, then put a stronger bleach on the ends and weaker one in the middle of the hair, for the graduated effect. (Or you can just have one shade on the ends, the backcombing ensures it is graduated). They can also do the roots in a darker shade. Applying the dye took like 1.5 hours! Then it has to develop for a bit, then they wash it out, brush out all the backcombing and style.

I’m having one on Friday and they’ve said it’ll take 3 hours. I’m looking forward to the end product but I’m going to be bored out of my mind in the hairdressers for 3 hours. 😬

Yeah it takes a long time but worth it. Go for shadow root too.

Mine still looks good nearly 12 months later.
