Diesel car and short journeys dpf

Do you have issues with the dpf?
I'm about to buy a diesel but only cover around 60 miles per week short journeys / town driving

I know nothing about cars but have read that this may lead to issues with the dpf

Does anyone have any experience of this?

Hi i drive a diesel hyundai x3i and I've had no problems. I have a six minute drive to work it's 1.5mile. However I make a conscious effort to go down the motorway quite fast about once a fortnight to clear the DPF. This is from experience of having a full one and needing to pay. I hope that helps

Just make sure you do as suggested above!

It's a bit like keeping the chimney swept Grin

A diesel isn't really suitable for the driving you're doing and your warranty will be invalid if the DPF is blocked up from the incorrect driving needed.

We get a lot of customers at work buy diesels for the MPG but they only do the school run.

You will need to do a long run at least once a week, the car will generally say "keep driving" if the filter needs clearing. I hope this helps!

Yes I do and the light comes on occasionally and it needs a longer blast to get it to turn off. Personally I wouldn't buy a diesel in your position, I think it will possibly cause issues.

BrainBetrayingMe · 02/02/2020 18:12

Don't do it.
I do a lot of short journeys for work and home life and the dpf just doent like it.
It needs a good blast on the motorway regularly.
Mine cost me a fortune when it first clogged up £1250, and despite then trying to incorporate a blast on the motorway regularly, I just couldn't keep it clear.

I've now changed to petrol because while the car was otherwise great, my lifes driving requirements just don't suit it.

For 60 miles a week of short journeys a petrol is much more suitable.
