Just musing.
Where would you live with a budget of £300,000?
We currently live in a seaside town in the South East but we've been here 10 years and I have itchy feet. The town's getting run down and my area particularly had changed for the worse over the last decade.
So, where would you live? Criteria is 4 bedrooms, some sort of garden but happy to have a courtyard. Preferably by the sea and with good schools for 2 teenagers and one in Reception. I'd like easy access to countryside but probably not a village, though a small town would be fine.
Family is mainly around Essex/London so not as far north as Newcastle! We're 2 hours away from them ATM and happy to be further but parents are getting older so don't want to be 6 hours' drive, for instance.
I'm looking forward to an afternoon of Rightmove, looking at your suggestions!
Thank you!

do you need to work?

RandomMess · 02/02/2020 15:59

Norfolk has lovely places but the drive to Essex probably horrific!!

Nearlyadoctor · 02/02/2020 16:30

East Devon

jaffaeclipse · 02/02/2020 16:45

Not by the sea of course but you could drive to Norfolk

ps1991 · 02/02/2020 16:48

Not By the sea but Bourne, Lincolnshire is nice, as are the surrounding villages. We’re about to buy around there. Plenty of houses around £300000 good schools and nice countryside

RandomMess · 02/02/2020 16:51

Honestly Lincoln and Norfolk are lovely but the journey back to Essex hideous depending on how far away from the A1M you are...

Your money will go a long way in Lincolnshire, and there are now regular direct trains to/from London. Some nice villages with good facilities just north of Lincoln, but probably an hour to get to the sea. Louth is a nice old market town and closer to the coast; Skegness is naff but clean and nicer than you might expect, and there are plenty of smaller places with nice beaches. Schools are a mixed bag.

Apart from the “by the sea” part your criteria would fit my area quite nicely Grin.

I would be looking around Paignton/Brixham areas - or Plymouth if I needed a city/good job opportunities.

Managed to mangle the links. Hmm Blush

Ooh, Whitley Bay and Monkseaton in North Tyneside. Nowhere near as pricey as nearby Tynemouth but lovely. Close to Newcastle and Durham.
