Halifax bank: save the change

Hi all. Halifax gave this save the chance scheme, where you can set up an online saving accounts (crap interest and not really a savings account just an online account), and every time you spend using your debit card, Halifax found it up to the nearest pound and put it in your chosen amount. So we if yout spend 3.10, it will put 90 in your account.

I've saved £56 this month and haven't noticed. Just wanted to point it or for Halifax customers...£50 isn't going to set the world alight, but it's something if you are struggling to save.

Lots of banks do this these days. Monzo and Starling off the top of my head. Expect there are more.

But if it didn't do that, the money would just be in your current account instead?

It doesn't magic extra money out of thin air, plus isn't there the risk of missing a payment if money has been moved elsewhere?

I wish I could do this with Barclays! Brilliant idea.

Barbara yes it would of course. And spent. :)

I do this with my Lloyds account and it's really bumped up my savings. It will only take the money if there will be enough left to cover your direct debits and standing orders, so you won't find yourself without money or in your overdraft.

I love it. Easiest way to save a bit of money without needing to think about it.
