Don't know how to dress!

Pretty much what the subject says! Before I had my little girl (almost 11 weeks) I pretty much lived in gym leggings and hoodies or skinny jeans and flannel shirts, I was a size 10/12 and about 65kg.

Now I'm 83kg, and not really sure what size I am. I'm not in any rush to lose the weight, but I am tired of feeling frumpy and looking at my wardrobe knowing nothing will fit but leggings and my husband's hoodies! I tried buying jeans but it seems like size 14 is too small but size 16 are too baggy.

I'd just love to have a few outfits that I could wear to uni/shops/out for drinks (never happens but I can dream) - any easy to wear outfits/styles that I could try or Instagram accounts that might inspire? I just want to feel confident again!

I can't offer advice but I'm in the exact same situation. I just don't know how to dress myself to look nice now that I've had kids. (Tbh I never really knew)
Will watch this thread with interest!

Do you want to wear jeans? Or is it worth thinking outside your box a little bit? (Dungarees, shirt dresses, jumpsuits, tailored trousers, etc.)

I find skimming through Asos really helps. If I’m looking at eg ankle length/chino trousers then I pay attention to the eg pumps and type of tops they’ve paired them with to get an idea for a few full outfits.

Lilkat · 01/02/2020 14:23

@redred9 I do quite want to wear jeans, I don't think I suit dungarees, it's not so much a cute look on me - more "I'm here to do the milking".

I thinknik

I've never really tried chinos, in my head I can picture nice outfits but they don't seem to translate well to my body.

I do try checking out the full look on asos, but a lot of the time the full look is too trendy for me, or it looks like I'd be absolutely freezing and you wouldn't see the look because I'd end up under a parka.

I feel like I need a personal stylist and a permanent pair of spanx!

If you try different brands and style of jeans you should be able to find one that fits. Or maybe try jeggings?

Besidesthepoint · 01/02/2020 14:28

I find that dresses can really suit a larger frame, plus that jersey dresses can be really comfortable. Or you can try a long tunic with leggings? No point in wearing something uncomfortable, so if you like leggings that might be a good place to start.

Lilkat · 01/02/2020 15:13

@besidesthepoint I do like dresses, and would wear them with dark tights/leggings, I just don't have any that fit right now!

Any suggestions for good leggings? I feel like I've bought them from everywhere and they all go see through and baggy within a couple of washes no matter how much they cost!

”I'm here to do the milking"
^ this made me actually lol!

I second the idea to try lots of different brand jeans to find the one fore you. You might have to kiss a lot of frogs here!

I would choose a specific cut of jean and order a pair from eight hundred different brands. Then send them all back bar the one/two winning princes that you find.

Have you ever had your colours done or seen a personal stylist/shopper? If you want really specific 1:1 help then that might be an idea.

Or be brave and post a photo of yourself on here and we’ll do our best!

@redred9 I don't think I suit trendy looks, I'm pretty sure if I wore a midi skirt instead of looking chic, I'd look like the pigeon lady in home alone!

Massive jean order might be an idea, just do one order of a couple of sizes and a few brands. The sizing drives me up the wall! This morning I got two bras and two pairs of jeans, same sizes, both totally different fits - one bra was hanging on me, the other was trying to cut me in half!

The only thing that puts me off a personal shopper is the fear that everything they suggest will be out of my price range, but I'm open to suggestions of places to try!

I might post some pics on here, but please forgive the badly fitting bras - I know they aren't helping, I'm working on finding one that works Blush
