Best way to remove upper lip hair??

BotBotticelli · 01/02/2020 09:33

My natural hair colour is blond and I have never really felt the need to remove any facial hair before. But now, with 40 rapidly approaching, I have noticed a distinct ‘tache has appeared on my upper lip. The hairs are darker than the rest of the little hairs on my face and it’s quite noticeable.

Might not bother others, but I don’t like it.

I want to remove it but I am scared of doing anything that will make it grow back worse.

What’s the best technique?? Threading? Waxing? I am not keen on bleaching as I actually want the hairs gone. But open to ideas...

I use a very cheap twizzly thing from amazon. You twist and flex it and once you get the hang of it it's quite effective

NannyR · 01/02/2020 09:37

I'm not even sure what it's called, but it was recommended on MN, a sort of long spring that you roll over your top lip. They cost about three quid for two from Amazon and work really well.

I've started having a similar problem, early 40s with out of control sideburns 😩 I've purchased a facial epilator from QVC that has a spring. I've tried it once so far, it's removed the long hairs but left the peach fuzz behind, which I'm not bothered about. I'm just waiting to see how it grows back.

Using my husband’s ear and nostril trimmer, which hes never used I hasten to add 😬

JaneDarcy · 01/02/2020 10:42

Threading.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 01/02/2020 10:45

The twizzly thing is called an epistick. Works quite well. Also a dermaplaning razor will do a nice job and it's much faster. I used to wax mine but it hurts and it pulls the skin. I have got a Phillips Lumea but my hair is black and I'm very pale; not so good on blonde hair I believe.

IdblowJonSnow · 01/02/2020 10:45

Does the twizzly thing hurt?
Threading or a cream? Not waxing as it pulls on your skin and ages you over time.

FernBritanica · 01/02/2020 10:45

Threading

BobbinThreadbare123 · 01/02/2020 10:46

You have to watch the creams; they work spectacularly but you might get left with a moustache-shaped chemical burn!

Namethecat · 01/02/2020 10:47

Yes I would also recommend an Epistick, and it's cheap as chips .

Mandarinfish · 01/02/2020 11:00

I bought an epistick but it seemed completely ineffective. It just sort of rolled across my skin without plucking out a single hair! Am I doing something wrong? Can anyone talk me through the technique?

AlwaysCheddar · 01/02/2020 11:07

Which epistuck do you recommend? The one that looks like a wand or one with a mini whisk at the end?

PenelopeFlintstone · 01/02/2020 11:09

I tried plucking but it gave me pimples and I thought it was too obvious what it was from.

Mistymonday · 01/02/2020 11:15

Honestly, I just shave it every day and have done for about 20 years (i’m 37). It’s fine blonde hair but dark enough to be seen. Have a special razor for it to avoid infection risk. Moisturise area well. Skin is fine (mine is combination skin). I pluck my chin ones though as they’re thicker but more spread out.

Wereallsquare · 01/02/2020 11:25

Professional laser hair removal. I had about 6 treatments? After years of waxing, shaving, and faffing, I just went ahead and did my chin and upper lip and underarms.
The threading on my face left me with rough patches and hyperpigmentation. Perhaps my practitioner was not skilled?

People say that laser is not permanent. It has been about 2 years since I had mine and all looks good. If l need to, I will go for a top- up course in the future.

TantricTwist · 01/02/2020 11:29

I bought a Phillips Lumea after Christmas and it came with a mini electric pen shaver thing which I've since braved to remove this new blond faint fuzz on my upper lip, it seems to really show in daylight, then I zapped it with the lumea and this was over a week ago and it hasnt grown back. I was worried it wouldn't work on blonde fine hair but they're not growing back in a hurry so I think I've been lucky.

The rest of my body hair is dark hence the lumea in the first place, for which it has worked brilliantly.

LesLavandes · 01/02/2020 11:30

I have it waxed

wizzler · 01/02/2020 18:25

My epistick is like a springy wand. It's not the most fun I have ever had but it's not terrible

JJPC · 01/02/2020 18:27

I use a dermaplaning razor thing. Takes 5 seconds a couple of times a week.
