What's wrong with imitating Billie Eilish?

I have no real idea who she is, but I just came across a YouTuber apologising for doing a photoshoot with someone dressed liked her. The YouTuber is Jordan Matter, and I've never seen him do anything at all offensive - quite the opposite, he's always bonkers but polite and careful, and the photos he takes are beautiful. So why is Billie so upset about it?

Because they do these things in public and trick and disappoint fans.

Would you like someone dressing up as you and going out in public to hold themselves out as you? Probably not.

I still don't get it. Clearly she's a celebrity and in the pubic eye (though not mine), and people do imitations of famous people. It's part of being famous.

Anyway, what's so offensive about this particular one? https://metro.co.uk/2020/01/31/billie-eilish-calls-mean-youtubers-impersonating-not-least-stylish-12157762/. I'd understand her taking offence if he made a video that made her look bad in some way, but this doesn't seem at all offensive.

And why is she making threats? "It's not safe for you."

The its not safe comment is, I presume, referring to how some people can get carried away seeing celebrities, grabbing them, causing a mob etc?
I think it is attention seeking pathetic behaviour. They are obviously doing it so people think they are Billie. They want to walk around and have the adoration/fame etc. Really annoying, I don't blame Billie one bit!

It's not safe because the impersonator could be mobbed by fans and they could also be on the receiving end of anger and aggression if/when those fans realise they're dealing with an imposter.

Not to mention the fact that it is rude and disrespectful to purposely impersonate someone else for no reason other than to dupe people and promote YouTube videos.

And why is she making threats? "It's not safe for you."

I dont think it was a threat, more a warning of there are people who would want to hurt her, she has security teams to deal with it, these youtubers dont, they are putting themselves at risk
Imagine fooling a deranged stalker, your now the target or they find out truth and they stalk you in spite.

Some fans are not fans but dead set loopy and dangerous

foamrolling · 01/02/2020 10:09

I thought she explained quite clearly why people shouldn't do it - it's mean to trick her fans. They misrepresent her, if they do something unpleasant in public she gets the flack for it. And in no way did that statement about safety represent a threat. Well known you tubers aren't the only ones doing this, it's become a thing because of her distinctive style. Jo bloggs doing this could get in trouble if they end up mobbed by fans with no security.

Dilbertian · 01/02/2020 10:11

That makes sense. I misinterpreted the 'not safe for you' statement.

She's always been really careful about not being sexulised. She deliberately fully covers up and that has got her a, lot of negativity from some quarters. She's taken action against paps who've tried to get bikini shots etc.

She's just turned 18 and is quite reclusive partly because of MH issues. To see her out would cause a frenzy, she is a big star (even though you don't know her).
That's what the 'not safe' means. As said when it's discovered it's not her, people will get nasty.

She's currently worth around £9 million, her Brother a similar amount, so she's also at risk of kidnap.

Dilbertian · 01/02/2020 10:13

Is she really that big? What desert island have I been living on, that I'd heard the name but hadn't a clue who or what she is? Grin

If you want to be offended, read the lyrics about bruises on the knees and all sort of rough sex apologia.

That song came on in the car the other day and I was dumbstruck, shame as I think it’s a good tune, the lyrics are dreadful.
