Birmingham NEC help!

Hello all! Everyone was a huge help when I asked for advice on a London visit so I'm after more expertise!
In October I'm looking to take DD to a sow at the Birmingham NEC.. We'll be driving up so can anyone recommend a hotel near the venue where we could stay and then go in to the centre the next day please? I've had a look on Premier Inn but a bit confused about location!
Thank you!

There are several hotels in and around there. There is the Crown Plaza, Birmingham Metropole and Premier Inn. There is also a the Holiday Inn and Travelodge just a stones throw away.

The NEC (is it still called that?) does have Birmingham International Train station attached to it, and there are lots of regular trains to there from the City Centre from very early to very late. So if you fancied something extra, you could stay in the centre and travel in, plus have the benefit of being close to some great shops, restaurants, theatres etc.

Sorry, I should add, the NEC is adjacent to the Airport, and there is a monorail that links them, so you could Google hotels for Birmingham Airport.

The Premier Inn is a bit of a walk from the NEC itself by the way, but they should offer a shuttle service.

It's not called the NEC anymore but there are I think now 3 or 4 hotels on the site. I'm not sure of the new name but if you google it will have it. On their website then will be a list of hotels. Be aware it is outside the city centre but as PPs have said its next to airport and train station Birmingham international.

Parking at the NEC costs a fortune, and you have to get a bus from the car park to the NEC itself.

I'd probably stay in the city centre and get the train. Although city centre parking can also be expensive.

The train from New St to International (stop for the NEC) takes 10 - 15 mins and has something like 150 trains a day.

Do you have to travel by car? Birmingham is probably one of the easiest places to get to with public transport.

When I go to the NEC, I always stay in Birmingham. There is a premier inn above the train station. I then take the train to the NEC. Takes about 10 minutes.

Ooh, thanks everyone!
We don't have to travel by car, I'll look at train prices from Bath, that would probably be much easier!
Thanks again :)

A lot of the hotels round the nec you can't walk from to get to the nec. And when shows finish it is gridlock and getting a taxi or uber is a nightmare.
You can walk from Hilton metropole.
I would second staying in Bham and travelling in by train. Centre of brum is fabulous and so many cheaper and funkier places to stay.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 01/02/2020 14:03

Agree that it will be gridlock getting out of the NEC after the show. I would definitely consider staying outside and getting public transport to/from the hotel/NEC.

We normally stay the the holiday inn at the Airport, it’s cheaper than the NEC hotels, but has a free shuttle bus every 30 minutes. Plus it has a pool for the evenings.

CMOTDibbler · 01/02/2020 21:23

Double check which of their venues the show is actually at - a lot of people assume its the main NEC complex when its the NIA.

There's a very cheap Ibis budget at the airport that is clean and comfortable, and wouldn't involve a shuttle bus etc

Loveinapictureframe · 01/02/2020 21:41

I would check the show is the NEC not the NIA.
I would stay in Birmingham and get the train in to International - lots of trains and so much easier.

fijitheturtle · 01/02/2020 21:47

Premier inn broad street is walking distance to nec, stayed there last year and it was nice and close

FlightOfTheCat · 01/02/2020 23:12

As others have said, check whether it’s the NIA (in the city centre and close to Broad Street, which I think must be where Fiji means in the above post) or the NEC, which is definitely NOT walkable from the city centre, though easy enough to get to by train. It’s still known as the NEC but the official name now is Resorts World Arena.
