I found out on thursday that I'm pregnant, literally ovulated on 24th so very early. I'm quite badly underweight my bmi is 16.2 and I've read the MC risk is very high Sad. Booking GP App monday, what will they do? Will I need extra scans?

My bmi was 16.7 when I got pregnant with my first but I gained a lot of weight in first trimester and was actually within normal weight range by the time of booking appointment.

Do you have an ED at the moment?

My bmi was also 16-17 when I got pregnant. That’s been the case my entire life and I don’t have an ED. I just followed my appetite and gained weight very quickly in the first two trimesters which plateaued in the third trimester. I was fascinated by how the body knows what it needs for the baby.

As long as you’re not restricting food intake during pregnancy then I wouldn’t worry at all. I also lost all the pregnancy weight without diet or exercise by 9months post partum.

I have been restricting food since 2018 been in hospital twice for it. Obviously wont do that now I know I'm pregnant but I have lost since I found out 3 days ago and I've been eating more than usualConfused can the doctors prescribe shakes to go alongside meals?

If you’ve been restricting for a while I would encourage you to start taking vitamins now, your probably deficient depending on how much you’ve restricted. Start eating healthily and well now. A lot of women experience bad sickness and lose weight in the first trimester, I lost nearly a stone and my baby is fine. They are little parasites that take everything they need first.
Hope everything works out well for you.

Your GP will possibly get you booked into your midwife straight away. It's the midwives who make referrals to dieticians etc. You may be passed to a specialist midwife.

If you will have a problem with food, but would drink milkshakes, the GP may just recommend making smoothies. You can buy the ensure drinks. It depends on your GP if they'll prescribe them for you.

It doesn't work like that in underweight women. Women in the third world do have babies, but they aren't always healthy, have good brain/bone development etc.
