Slightly depressing topic but... (will? Writing)

Hi all,

First time poster here but lookin for some advice.

So I'm looking for any advice regarding how I can ensure that my child is ok, should anything happen to me and my partner.

I'm in a long term relationship with my partner who is my child's father and I'm fully aware of the fact that we need a will for if anything happens to us, but this isn't the question.

My question is, what to do so I can ensure my child goes to my mother if something happened to me and my partner, but we don't die. (Totally depressing I know...)

So I'm aware is scenarios whereby parents haven't died, therefore the will is not taken into consideration, which means the child goes into social services.

Myself and my partner want to be sure that if anything should happen to us and we are no longer of sound mind (for any reason what so ever) that our child would be looked after by my mother (who fully supports this) until she is old enough to make her own choices.

Does anybody have any experience of this at all?

Any help would be appreciated!

Social services first call to place any child - in this incredibly unlikely scenario - would be to place any children with the wider family anyway. So if your Mum is willing and able, then social services would be delighted that she would look after them.
