Snoring getting worse

I've always been a bit of a snorer but more gentle snuffles than full-blown snoring until recently when it's got noticeable worse. I'm sometimes waking myself up (usually when I'm drifting off so not heavily asleep) and poor dh is really having trouble sleeping so ends up nudging or moving me which wakes me too. I went away with friends over NY and one was very unhappy in the morning about her lack of sleep which was both embarrassing and hurtful.

Any ideas why it will have got worse all of a sudden and what I can do to help myself? I'm waking up very dry-mouthed so clearly sleeping with my mouth open and often feeling a little congested particularly first thing. Bizarrely I gave up smoking just before Christmas (not heavy but regular 3 or 4 a day) and I swear it's got worse not better! I have put on a bit of weight these past few months but I can't believe an extra 8-10kg can affect snoring that much Confused

Any remedies or suggestions gratefully received before dh decamps to the sofa for good Sad

Sounds just like me! I get congested at night - I think partly with any dairy, especially foods containing milk powders in, and maybe a bit of reflux. I find beconase nasal spray helps with the congestion, avoiding dairy as much as possible, and eating early to reduce reflux.
I do feel guilty when DHwakes me up, so tend to head to the couch myself.

Sleep apnea should probably be ruled out I would say. I have it and use cpap now. A lot of the same symptoms you have.
Can you make a gp appointment?

I've also tried various snoring remedies - moulded pillow and side sleeping (possibly works), nasal strips (rubbish) throat spray (rubbish)

I was always a snorer even as a child, but it got much worse when I gained weight as an adult.

Very much like you OP, dry mouth, waking myself up on my back, no one in the vicinity getting any sleep.

I had a surgical procedure and have lost 3 stone and you can barely hear me now.

Ah ok so I won't waste my money on nasal strips or sprays then and get myself down to the GP Confused.
