Neighbour saying they don't have my parcel

Ordered something off ebay, Nothing too expensive or anything, was only £11.00, But it was a birthday present for my grandad. Got home today to a "sorry I missed you" note from hermes.

It says it was delivered to my neighbour, and it gives the house number, just went over and she said there has been no parcel delivered here, and closed the door, tracked the parcel on hermes website and it says it was delivered and there is a signature and a name next to it.

I went back over to neighbour and asked if her name was (name on hermes website) she said yes then closed the door on me again.

Anything I can do from here?

Thanks.

Report her to the police for theft surely?

safariboot · 31/01/2020 15:50

Contact the seller in the first instance.

Had you stated, in advance, that delivery to either that neighbour or any neighbour is acceptable? If not, then the liability to you rests with the seller.

CoffeeCoinneseur · 31/01/2020 15:53

All liability falls on the seller.

Did you pay with PayPal?

Send a message to the seller explaining. It’s up to them to be chasing the courier.

If you have no joy from the seller open a case on eBay - they always find in the buyers favour, even with a signature delivery.

This happened to me once, ordered some shoes from a catalogue. Parcel was left with neighbour, neighbour said she didn't know anything about it.

I reported it to the catalogue company who contacted the delivery company. They investigated and it was my word against the neighbour as the driver said he definitely left the parcel with her. Catalogue company sent another pair of shoes.

You need to contact the seller as the contract for delivery is between them and the delivery company. It's the seller that needs to sort it out.

Get the Hermes driver to pop back round with you. They'll surely remember who they gave it to.

Unless they've written the wrong door number by mistake and it's with a different neighbour?

dontgobaconmyheart · 31/01/2020 16:06

Poor seller though, I would feel bad, all because your neighbour is a thief. Seems a bit wrong knowingly putting them out of pocket. I'd go around again and show her she signed for it OP. We did this once with neighbour in a previous property, went through the facade of ' I'm sure these things are easily done, but as you can see you did sign for it, if you could have a look that would be brilliant, otherwise I'm worried it was stolen and will report it etc....next day it appeared on our mat Hmm. I thanked the neighbour when I saw them for 'dropping the parcel off' but they still denied it. People are just dicks.

Urkiddingright · 31/01/2020 16:20

You need to call Hermes and explain what has happened and also contact the seller to let them know. Not sure if the police would be any use tbh or whether it’s even worth it for £11.

Sparklyring · 31/01/2020 16:43

Hermes are an appalling company!! They said they'd delivered a parcel through our door with a photo of a white fence, which we don't have. Turned out they'd posted it through an unoccupied house near by, no attempt at the right house as we were both in.

Simonsaysitschristmas · 31/01/2020 16:58

This happened to me before Christmas except for I was the one the courier said they had left the parcel with. I had been in all day but no one had dropped anything off at all (I still felt guilty when the neighbour popped round and asked me for her parcel).

Not sure what happened in the end as she never knocked again, I assume it was with another neighbour and he wrote the wrong house number down.

flippyflapper · 31/01/2020 17:22

I had this but i was the one they were supposed to of dropped it off too.

They knocked about 5 times and assured them i had not been in all day and have not recieved anything, looked over fence etc.

Neibours obviously thought we took it and now don't talk to us

Soontobe60 · 31/01/2020 17:28

I'd pop back to the neighbour all apologetically tell them that the police may call round to theirs as you've reported the parcel missing to them and they need to be sure it hasn't been delivered. In other words, call their bluff, they've totally stolen it!
