Beavers helper mistake...

hidinginthenightgarden · 31/01/2020 10:57

We have recieved the schedule for this terms parent helpers. Every parent does it once or twice a term. Neither me or DH particularly enjoy it, mainly because (rather selfishly) it clashes with our hobby. We of course oblidge as our child benefits and loves attending.
We have been missed off the schedule somehow. DH says not to say anything. I feel bad though. Whilst I would prefer not to do it, I know there may be other parents feeling the same who are doing it in my place.
Would you tell them they have missed you off or keep quiet?

Tell them.

Heismyopendoor · 31/01/2020 11:01

Tell them

CwtchesCuddles · 31/01/2020 11:02

Other parents will have noticed too! How would you feel if things were reversed?

Witchend · 31/01/2020 11:07

Hmm! Have you been a pain in the neck and fed all the children sugar cubes on the way in and got yourself blacklisted? Grin

I'd tell them. If nothing else, if someone else points it out, then you may end up doing double next term.

hidinginthenightgarden · 31/01/2020 11:10

Cuddles I wouldn't notice if someones name wasn't there. I do not know the surnames of the kids at beavers at all which is what is used. I doubt anyone has noticed I am not on it.

Witchend - don't think I am blacklisted no. I nearly got the date wrong last time though!

I don't know either way, to be honest.

I've just become a member, I'm a leader in training for Brownie Guiding. My being there has meant that our group no longer needs parents to stay.

There's another parent who is keen to help which is great. I'm hoping she joins, if that's something that's possible now I'm there. But it makes me sad that the majority of the parents won't get involved.

hidinginthenightgarden · 31/01/2020 11:22

Emptyfieldofducks Thats what makes me think I should tell and go on the rota. DS isn't very forthcoming with info on what he does there so the odd time helping is the only way I find out what they get up to!

Are you sure they haven't had new volunteers so now have more volunteers than weeks, meaning you'll appear early on the next rota?

hidinginthenightgarden · 31/01/2020 11:27

No, the rota is from now until July and some parents are on there 3 times and we don't feature at all!

I wouldn't say anything and just enjoy the break this time round!

Mumdiva99 · 31/01/2020 11:33

Definitely tell them. Scouting is already run by volunteers- who need additional volunteers to support at your group. It's just an error. Maybe they will swap the rota or maybe you can be the back up short notice volunteer that stays if someone forgets/is ill. But definitely do your bit.

AJPTaylor · 31/01/2020 11:39

Oh tempting!
I would like to say I would offer but....... Me and dh help at guides because we live in a rural area, there are only about 10 guides and they have to have 2 adults. Its not the highlight of the week though!

caulkheaded · 31/01/2020 11:40

Do you offer the dates you can do or is it just allocated and you switch if needed with each other?

I wondered if you had submitted dates and then they couldn’t accommodate them?

gospelsinger · 31/01/2020 11:48

I would keep quiet, but volunteer quickly for an event that happens on another day. There's usually one - Easter Egg thing or similar on a Saturday.

gracepoolesrum · 31/01/2020 11:50

I think it's quite a poor example to set to your child that's it's ok to sneak out of a responsibility, so I'd tell them.

Witchend · 31/01/2020 11:56

Witchend - don't think I am blacklisted no. I nearly got the date wrong last time though!
Pity Grin
I kept threatening to get blacklisted by bringing in bottles of cola to "parent lunch" and supplying it to the children. One school dinner, paying over the odds, cold and generally poor quality; eaten in the noisy dining hall with your child and then being told you're welcome to go out to the playground with them. What wasn't there to love?

You could try the sugar cubes if you get asked to help. Grin

mummmy2017 · 31/01/2020 11:59

Another one who thinks offer yourself for events.
Explain about your hobby, but say you can do stand by with a weeks notice.

TheDizzyRascal · 31/01/2020 11:59

Please tell them. I help at our cubs group and it's ALWAYS the same people that have to do MORE, because some people do NONE. If everyone did a little bit it would be easier for everyone. I hate the "someone else will do it" attitude (not saying that you have this attitude!) but the someone else is always the same few and it's really not fair. xxx

hidinginthenightgarden · 31/01/2020 12:54

I have told them. They don’t have many events and I would rather have notice to rearrange things and help out than by on standby. Waiting for a response.

Is it a short term? I used to run a beavers group, occasionally terms not being even meant someone might not go on the rota for a term, they would then be the person who went on twice the following term.

Might it be that? I've lost track of school terms. I suppose it depends when Easter falls.

1forsorrow · 31/01/2020 13:28

Sorry, ignore me, I missed the bit about it being till July.
