Little purchases that would make life easier

Just contemplating the mental list of small things (less that £5) I need to buy that if I actually got round to buying would make life a lot easier

  • white board pen (I have a little board in the kitchen to write shopping lists on etc but the pen has run out so I never use it and forget what I’ve run out of)
  • more socks for the children so I don’t have to scrabble together two odd socks in different sizes
  • more child sized cutlery because for some reason we only have 2 forks and a knife which are always in the dish washer
  • better bin bags, accidentally bought shit ones last month and have been living with the consequences ever since

Anyone else have small purchases they just need to amazon prime so they can get on with their lives

Things I've bought recently ( I can't handle having stuff outstanding so ridiculously streamlined)

2 olbas oils. One for upstairs, one for downstairs
Whiteboard pen (borrowed from work)
Ikea first aid kit for the car
New memory card for dash cam
Ikea ziplock bags for portions of batch cooking
Mini wash bag in my work bag with tampons/spare pants/painkillers/contact lenses/etc

I used to be really disorganized and it seriously affected my mental health, so had to get sorted. Every single time there is a tiny thing that will improve my life and streamline things, I just order it on Prime. It's improved my life immeasurably

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 01/02/2020 00:08

Tape dispenser

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 01/02/2020 00:09

I said this on the other similar thread teaspoons

I bought a bag for when I walk ddog. It has a dispenser for pop bags and space for treats and keys and a phone. It means everything is in one place so I can just pick it up and leave the house. Especially brilliant in the summer when I don't have a coat on so no pockets to stuff. Paid less than £10 for it

buckeejit · 01/02/2020 09:18

I bought dh a grid it organiser thing for Christmas then bought myself one for my everyday make up but still haven't got round to using it.

I recommend a lazy Susan if you have a cupboard of sauces, jams & pickles etc. Also to use baskets for higher or harder to access shelves for easier storage.

Not for me but for my mother - a couple of pairs of cheap reading glasses, so that I don't get a late night phone call telling me she can't find her glasses!

99problemsandthecatis1 · 01/02/2020 10:10

Mine was herb scissors. I use herbs a fair amount but for some reason refused to pay £6.99 for herb scissors. Once I did I wondered why I hadn't done it earlier!

I also need to buy more socks and knickers, loads of my socks have holes in so I've chucked them so now I'm scrabbling around to find a pair.

Sunshine1235 · 01/02/2020 16:25

AlCalavicci - he does grate cheese (I make him so mine) but I think his hands are just a lot tougher than mine so he doesn’t find it uncomfortable 🥵

First aid kit is a good shout. We have plenty of teaspoons but only about 4 knives

A box of tissues in every room (though you do have to watch the pockets of your dirty laundry).

A swivel peeler for carrots/apples/spuds.

Ikea scissors - the packs of three for about a quid. As many as you need to keep a pair in a drawer in every room of the house so you can always find scissors when you need them.

I did this,
scissors in every room, inlcuding my bedroom for cutting tags off new clothes. Dc each have a small pair in pencil case and a large pair on their desks.
it is amazing. and ikea scissors are the best by a long way for some unknown reason.

steppemum · 01/02/2020 18:07

I have a bottle of flash and a sponge by every place where you need to clean (bathroom, downstairs loo, kitchen sink) never have to remember to go and get cleaning stuff.

and tissues in every room too.

My life changing one was reading glasses in the kitchen for recipes, so I don't have to go and find my proper glasses and it doesn't matter if they get flour etc on them

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 01/02/2020 18:15

Garlic press: I buy garlic in bulk, and chop it finely in food processor, then freeze. Ditto cheese.

Bin bags: I'm still using up my stocks of carrier bags!

Long charger cables: all over the house (braided style so they don't snap) plus I just bought more for my mum!

Big metal spoon for cooking/serving: I have two and they are AWESOME!

Every time I get a new glasses prescription, I buy (at least) two pairs.
Ditto leather gloves for winter.

Last year I bought a fan just ahead of the predicted heatwave. I was cool as a cucumber while everywhere was sold out!

BarbaraofSeville · 01/02/2020 18:21

I buy garlic and ginger frozen ready crushed in cubes from the Asian food section of the freezer in Asda or tesco. You get absolutely loads for about a pound so much cheaper than buying fresh and ready prepared for curries, chilli etc.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 01/02/2020 18:26

I have some of that too Barbara! The top shelf of my freezer looks like a vampire repelling station. Grin

Mountian · 02/02/2020 09:46

Thanks to you lot I've just ordered an extra long phone charger cable and a new soap dish. No more gunky sink area to clean. Grin

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 02/02/2020 09:53

I recently bought a couple of these baskets from Wilko for the kitchen cupboard. One has all the open packets of nuts, dried fruit etc and the other has packets of rice, cous cous etc. So much neater than having loose packages flying about and spilling.

I need a new soap dish! Mine doesn't drain so the soap just sits in water and goes soft. Which ones are people buying?

Mountian · 02/02/2020 10:41

I have similar baskets Freaky, they are life-changing! Smile

I'm replacing my non-draining soap dish with something like these from Amazon.

Bodear · 02/02/2020 11:06

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz please replace your hot water bottle. I kept putting off buying a new one and ended up in a&E with blistered burns from hip to knee when it burst. Very painful and the marks lasted for a couple of years (faded now though).

CorneliusBeefington · 02/02/2020 13:15

we know how to celebrate payday in this house
GrinGrin I splashed out and got a new meat thermometer. £6.89. Wild.

KitKatBox · 02/02/2020 13:24

This has reminded me that I need a new rotary cheese grater - the turning handle has broken off on mine (about two years ago) and I keep shredding my fingers.

OopsUpsideYourBed · 02/02/2020 13:46

Inspired by this thread to do something about life's little annoyances, I just bought a replacement cutlery basket for the dishwasher as the bottom was broken and cutlery would fall out giving me the RAGE

buckeejit · 04/02/2020 22:54

My long chargers arrived today & they are fab!

I'm raging about the granite sink drainer though. The rivets catch water & it's not angled to drain. Rang to see if they could fix it & they can't. What's the point if the little lines then. They say they're decorative. How? Aargh!

RedIsWhereItsAt · 06/02/2020 09:49

I just got some small cheap plain but hard-wearing earrings for work after a recommendation on here. I can sleep in them and I know they're sturdy.
