HI, Im looking to take my 3 and 6 year olds to Lapland this year to see Father Christmas and do the husky and reindeer rides and hopefully see the northern lights. I know of Santa's Lapland. Im considering going after xmas day as it would be cheaper but it seems Santas Lapland dont open after xmas day. Also their Santa wasnt great this year according to friends that went. Im looking for the 2 or 3 night break and we dont like Skiing. Ive Googled and just find Ski resorts with Santa. Can anyone recommend anywhere else? Thanks

Can I ask (sorry), but what’s the point of going to see Santa after Christmas Day? That’s when he goes on his holidays to relax (that’s what we were told).

I did a day trip with Transun last year, I think they do 2/3 night visits too. I think most firms do the visits before Christmas... We all loved it but it was so bloody cold!

We went but Santas Lapland was the only part we didnt like. The rest of it was marvellous ... far better evening meal in old chalet in the woods and Santa arriving on a sleigh and meeting after the meal even though a v long wait!!

A friend of mine went with Tui a few weeks ago and they didn’t get to see the MAIN person you go to see Shock!! She received compensation. (Didn’t cover the cost of the day itself)

Canterbury have a good reputation as do Transun but your question is ‘Where else?’ so the natural answer would be whatever resorts these companies go to.

All you need to do is look online at their brochures I think?

This link is for the Levi tourist information on what’s on offer if you wish to book your own holiday but this was for last year - just posting as an example.

I went with Tui to Saariselka for 4 nights. It was amazing, the Santa was the best one we've ever seen. We did snowmobiling, husky and reindeer rides and a northern lights excursion.

Thanks Wax. I just looked it up and that's where Santas lapland is so maybe its the same place. I went through a travel agent and thats who they used. Just thought there must be other places.

The idea with going after xmas day is that a lot of what you do there doesn't involve santa - husky sled, reindeer, snow fights, craft etc etc. So the kids see him after xmas day and say thanks for their presents. Santa will know what present they received and of course he will know something special about their bedroom - I love your Unicorn teddy etc and you get more nights for the same price. Everyone i know whose done that has gone to a ski resort that also has santa there and I hate Skiing. I guess Sants's Lapland it is.

Ive never looked at a day trip but will have a look now although i think it must be 4 hours flight each way so a very long day!

Hi I'm now looking at a day trip as it seems to give you all if the experiences like husky, reindeer, santa etc at half the cost. I've found a reasonably priced Transun say trip but I read the reviews and they have some terrible reviews. Theres one with Canterbury tales but its £500 more. Anyone experience with Transun or catherbury travels?

We went with Canterbury travel just before last Christmas. It was brilliant. Really well organised. DD and I both loved it.
My friend also went last year. Her family loved it too.

TSSDNCOP · 04/02/2020 21:24

I went with Canterbury for the day trip. It was fantastic. I wouldn’t take a 3yo or even a 6yo. It’s a really, really long day with lots of excitement and the littles were not having a good time. I’d wait 2 years.

deste · 04/02/2020 21:33

I took my DD when she was eight but as someone above said “it’s very cold”. I don’t think I would take a three year old.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/02/2020 06:45

I've heard people say the day trips are way too rushed. It's a very long day for young children, I wouldn't have done one personally.

We went to Saariselkä for three nights with Santa’s Lapland this year and it was an amazing trip.
Santa was great

movingdilemma1234 · 05/02/2020 06:53

I did a three night stay with Canterbury Travel some years ago with my then 8 year old. It was magical and perfect length of time. We had our own log cabin with chopped logs and a sauna attached. We sledged up to the hotel for breakfast and then had a day of activities. On the last day we eventually 'found' Father Christmas in the woods and my DD was given the gift I'd brought and that she's written to request
I think the trip was called 'In search of Father Christmas'
All warm outdoor clothing was provided which was a bonus

TSSDNCOP · 05/02/2020 18:28

Wax ours was absolutely not rushed despite a delay because of the sodding Gatwick drone. But it’s a long, action packed day with a fair old flight there and back. The littles were a bit miserable.
