If so please tell me what model and how you find it

I need to make a decision and I can't because its too confusing, all the information out there is hard to digest
So if you have fiat 500x, please tell me what you like or dislike about it

Go sit in one (or several) and drive them. Don't buy a device on someone else's experience when so much of it is down to your exact shape and expectations.

Thank you. I have viewed some and I know I like the car I just wanted some real life reviews and opinions

I'm interested too OP.

Is it comfy on 2h+ drives
Any problems getting kids & elderly parents in & out
Are they reliable or recurring issues.
Anything quirky that owners like/dislike.

That sort of thing.

BoomBoomBoomLetMeHearYouSay · 30/01/2020 13:08

I’ve had two. Lovely little cars.
Don’t think it’s ideal for getting elderly parents in and out of though. I got a 4 door mini for precisely this reason.

zenasfuck · 30/01/2020 13:08

Exactly that groggy thank you

It's all well and good the dealer telling me it'll do 47mpg but how does that relate in real life

A 30 minute test drive won't give me a feel for the car, whereas someone who's had one for a year will know more etc

I had one for three years and loved it! The petrol consumption is really good, 45-50 mpg, and mine was automatic. I had to change it in the end because I needed something bigger, I went for a 500L, also good on fuel, not so good after a few years, as things started going wrong. I now have an suv.

Bump for the evening crowd

My children have them.
I find them very harsh to drive as everything is very manual but that may just be a small car thing generally.
Cheap to run. Low insurance. Very low car tax. uses very little petrol
You cant get 3 adult and 2 suitcases in the car!
Hard to get in and out of the back (may be a small car thing)
Cant really fit the labrador in

ShyTown · 30/01/2020 22:24

We drove a rental 500X through a freak snow storm in the south of France. It did the job wonderfully through some pretty sketchy conditions and was very comfortable even the drive took hours due to the weather. If I was in the market for a small car (I’m not, we have a big SUV and don’t need a second car) it would definitely be on my list.

highlandcoo · 30/01/2020 22:26

It really depends what your needs are regarding a car. I have one and I really like it but only use it for shortish journeys of less than an hour.

Obviously with two doors it's not ideal if you're using the back seat frequently, but I've given friends lifts locally sometimes and they just have to squash in. If I was regularly fastening a child in a car seat in the back I wouldn't consider it.

And it can't get up hills quickly with four adults in the car.

It's a second car and I use it mostly for pootling about on my own. It's a cute wee car and I love driving it. It makes me happy Smile

@Brokenlightfitting. Can you really not fit a Labrador in the back? I have been craving one and was hoping the X would mean that I could fit the dog in

TrainspottingWelsh · 30/01/2020 22:30

Dsd has one. The occasions she borrows my car for space/ anything off road I drive it. Mine is a powerful, luxury car but in fairness, it does compare pretty well. Quite nippy in towns, fun to drive and cheap as hell on petrol. The drawbacks imo would apply to any small economical car with an engine that isn't built for power or speed.

The only real downfall we found when we were researching them for dsd, is the parts, maintenance, repairs etc once they're out of warranty. They're not as cheap as you'd expect for an economy car make, but neither are they as reliable/ long lived as those on small cars from manufacturers that are generally regarded as more prestigious.

Still, if it's got a longer warranty and you aren't planning on having it long enough for costly repairs/ wear and tear etc then I'd definitely recommend them. If it's older cars and/or you plan on keeping it years, there's probably better, more economical options for the same outlay.

Well, one just about fits in the boot but it cant really lie down
The big old one cant really get in the back seat- not enough room to sit in the rear footwell and struggles to sit on the seat. Ends up with an adult having to go in the back with the lab on their knee.
You can fold the seats down but it gives a very uneven surface when you do that

zenasfuck · 30/01/2020 22:41

I think some of the replies are talking about the fiat 500 which is a much smaller car than the 500x

OP posts:
zenasfuck · 31/01/2020 11:32

Any more thoughts? I have to make a decision by 6pm 😮

@Brokenlightfitting

Are you talking about the 500X or the 500? I had a 500 and it's the size of a postage stamp but the 500X (which the OP is talking about) is considerably bigger. I'd be surprised if you couldn't get a dog in the back of it.
