I've used sure for years but I'm not sure it's right anymore
Smell wise
What is a really good one to use to make sure this never happens?

Oh interesting about soap rather than shower gel. Why soap?

OP posts:
KnifeAngel · 30/01/2020 12:19

I use shield bar soap just for my underarms. Shower gel doesn't seem to get rid of the sweaty smell.

ImaginaryFriends · 30/01/2020 15:05

I'm another soap convert. No idea why it works better than shower gel but it does for me.

I use Dove solid deodorant as there's no mess, waiting for it to dry or clouds of spray.

I've always had issues with underarm sweat. It's got a lot better since I've given up all dairy foods, which was unexpected but great to discover!

Then at the beginning of January, I started trying Fit Pit, which is a natural deodorant in a jar I got from my local plastic-free shop. It's a tiny jar, but you only use a small amount so I think it will last two months at least and it was only £4. Anyway, I realised the other day, there's no bad smell at the end of the day! I feel fresh all the time and I don't even worry about sweat now. It's incredible, because it doesn't even claim to be an anti-perspirant, but it just seems to work in harmony with my body or something. Definitely recommend it.

Nothing2doooooo · 30/01/2020 15:20

Combination of Triple dry spray (for men) and Mitcham (for women). Will help with the odour and sweat odour.

Nothing2doooooo · 30/01/2020 15:21

Sorry, I think its Mitchum.

MotherofPearl · 30/01/2020 15:30

Another vote for soap. I'm not sure of all the reasons but for me shower gel just slides off and also leaves a layer on your skin, whereas soap gets your skin really clean.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 30/01/2020 15:32

Another vote for sure 48hr cream (though I apply daily)
I used to use Mitchum but don't find it works as well now.

saturdaymorning · 30/01/2020 15:42

If you are having excessive sweat problems OP, you can go to your GP and get a medicated deodorant on prescription

This is ridiculous advice, just try different deodorant's instead of wasting doctors time.

saturdaymorning · 30/01/2020 15:43

Yes I also use soap instead of shower gel, it does get rid of that sweaty smell, I then use Sure or Mitchum's is a good choice.

FunkyFreida · 30/01/2020 15:54

Bionsen stick is a good one to try if you’ve tried Mitchum and Sure (like I have). It’s £2 in Tesco. I thought it being less strong (aluminium free) than the others, it wouldn’t work but it really does, even after 2 hours in the gym with sweat pouring off me, I don’t smell. I had that perimenoupausal stink within 5 mins out of the shower going on.

I use soap in the shower, which really helps as PP say, and put it on morning and night. I read that putting deodorant on at night makes it more effective, something to do with hormones while we sleep.

TheNestedIf · 30/01/2020 16:04

Perspirex. More expensive than other antiperspirants but balances out as you only have to use it once a week so it lasts a lot longer.

Sure smells ok but I've always found it utterly useless at preventing sweatiness.

charlesthekudu · 30/01/2020 16:13

@saturdaymorning going to the drs is not ridiculous advice!!!

I've suffered from hyperhidrosis and it has a terrible effect. I was depressed, I avoided all physical contact so couldn't have relationships and I avoided job interviews or any roles that included a uniform that I couldn't disguise sweat patches in. It was completely debilitating so don't minimise how bad excessive sweating can be

purpleme12 · 30/01/2020 16:22

I don't have Tesco near me. Is bionsen only sold in Tesco? I've bought one of the ones mentioned in this thread and going to get soap as well now. Well make a note of the others in case I need them as well

OP posts:
saturdaymorning · 30/01/2020 16:24

@charlesthekudu If the OP had stated that she was suffering from excessive sweat which was causing depression then I would of thought making a doctors appointment was good advice. But she is just asking what deodorant works best.

ClementineWardobe · 30/01/2020 16:29

Agree, go to the doc if you can't find something to control it. Hyperhydrosis is a medical condition.. Don't be embarrassed OP!
Driclor worked for me, and now I use mitchum unscented. Best of luck.

LilyJade · 30/01/2020 18:00

I use Nivea Black & White Invisible Original antiperspirant deodorant roll on under my arms; when that dries I spray on the matching Nivea Black & White antiperspirant deodorant spray under my arms & under my breasts... it may be over the top but I never get sweaty in those two areas throughout a busy physically hard working day!

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 30/01/2020 18:20

Sure Maximum is the bees knees! Its been extensively road tested by my best friend who does 12 hour shifts in a boiling hot care home, my mother visiting Singapore and Australia and my mate who runs marathons. 100% success rate.

chesterfuckingdrorrs · 30/01/2020 20:38

@purpleme12 I'm not sure of the science behind the soap thing I read about it a while ago with a lot of people saying the same thing about it eradicating sweaty smells.l so tried it and it worked a treat.

I've since seen it recommended loads of times on similar threads something to do with it rinsing clean.

It has to be proper soap and not the likes of dove bars. I use detol just to be extra sure I don't stink Grin

purpleme12 · 30/01/2020 20:51

What do you mean by proper soap?

OP posts:
KnifeAngel · 30/01/2020 21:08

Proper bar soap is the likes of Imperial Leather etc. Dove soap is a cream bar and doesn't work like soap.

FunkyFreida · 30/01/2020 21:24

Bionsen will probably be in any supermarket or place that sells deodorants OP. I only mentioned Tesco as that’s where I got it. I had always discounted it before as I didn’t think it would work being non aluminium.

Agree about Dove bars. I only use it as hand soap. Imperial Leather is the best for washing IME. Leaves a nice long lasting scent as well.

purpleme12 · 30/01/2020 21:27

Oh good I did just get imperial leather actually

OP posts:
SilverOtter · 30/01/2020 22:10

Another vote here for Mitchum. Since I started using it (I use the roll on version) I've never noticed the slightest sweaty whiff...even after 12+ hours

uncomfortablydumb53 · 30/01/2020 22:13

I always use Mitchum roll on as I like the Powder Fresh scent
My DS1 has Hyperhidrosis and uses a stick called Perspirex It's expensive but he only uses it about twice a week
