I had thought older people talking about their health all the time was a myth...

...but I am honestly finding this is exactly what my parents are doing to me, every time I call. I get told immediately and for ages about the various ailments in quite a lot of detail. I do care, of course I do, but I also see the detailed (and sometimes icky) buts of our health as pretty private. Anyone got any good ways of dealing with this?

My mum is 67 and my dad's still working. She seems to give me essays about stuff. Like I'll say I had a right headache yesterday. Then she butts in and said I was exactly the same yesterday. I woke up around 5am and thought oh I can't sleep. So I got up and made a drink. Then your dad got up for work. So I got back in bed with a book. I went over all sickly tired and headachy. So I thought I'll get up and have a shower. So I did that and had some breakfast around 8.30..... (get the idea haha)

I often find myself switching off whilst she tells me about things in great deal. She actually does it over boring things too. If I mention I cooked a roast. She will tell me what she cooked for the last three nights. All the things she considered cooking and whether she enjoyed it or not lol.

I am not sure how you can stop it other than butting back in and talking about your life abit. I wonder if it's a boredom thing. My mum's always in the house. She probably needs to get out abit more. A trip to Sainsbury's is a highlight for her now bless her lol
