Migraines - please help

I've given myself a medication overuse migraine - I've taken a triptan 2 out of the last 3 weeks.

I've started another preventative but in the meantime, how do I help the headache when not taking triptans?

I have to work have kids and cannot just go cold turkey.

All tips welcomed.

Hi I suffered with migraines when I was pregnant so was unable to take most things that would usually help but I would recommend 4head witch is a menthol balm that I would rub into my forehead and back of my neck I also found a hot water bottle on the back of my neck really helped

The number and frequency of your triptan intake isn't clear from your post OP. Cocodamol and caffeine are the only things that touch the headache aspect of my migraines. Keep well hydrated - migraines seem to mess with my thirst and fluid balances so I force water down and it helps.

Was hooked on 12 trip tans a month for 20 years.
The headaches nurse advised:
Bed at same time every night
Wake up at same time every day - no long lies or over sleeping
Eat regularly throughout day and don’t get light headed by missing meals
Very low alcohol intake
No binge drinking ever
Loads of water
Take exercise - so walk regularly when you can
Basically she said lead a v boring life
She said doing all those things would shield you from triggers.
I’m headache free now.
Mine disappeared when I hit menopause AND stopped eating added sugar for six months. Lost 3 stones and got all those missing days back.
Fabulous to be headache free.

I second the 4head stick. Also try either a heat pack or ice pack on your neck or massaging the back of your head at the hairline on the side of the migraine.

In terms of long term help, have you considered a daith piercing?

EMDR helped me also, forgot to mention it. And swimming. Oddly the thought of taking the kids swimming is stressful enough to bring on a migraine but the pool itself gets rid of it. Cold water is a known migraine reliever.

Yes to a boring life. Hard when you just want to escape the pain and treat yourself.
