Possible allergic reaction?

Dd told me recently that she can always tell the difference between Calpol and Calprofen because the Calprofen makes her throat feel tingly. It’s the same if I use another brand too so I think it’s the ibuprofen that is doing it. Is this in fact a very mild allergic reaction? I usually use Calpol but have ibuprofen too but it’s suddenly occurred to me that if she reacts to it maybe I should make it known on her records? I am allergic to penicillin and I know that I once had a very bad reaction and was told it could be fatal if it happened again. Can a reaction go from very mild to serious?

No i don't. Ibuprofen has a weird spikes dry feel to it. It makes my kids cough every time.

Try it, see what I mean.

Yes it could be a reaction to the ibuprofen. NSAIDs are amongst the commonest drug causes of anaphylaxis. Reactions can change from being relatively mild to being life-threatening with further exposures. Reactions aren’t always caused by the active drug though and it could be the colouring/other excipients are the culprit (or it could be that it’s just coincidence). It may be worth discussing with a GP to see if they think allergy testing is appropriate.

I'd get her tested by the gp just to be sure. I have a friend who has an ibuprofen allergy so they do exist at least.

GP's don't do allergy tests.

You have to be referred and on that basis unless she's had a reaction (and even then...) they will just tell them not to use NSAIDS.

It's probably the solution. It makes your throat dry and scratchy.

Awesome thank you. I will mention it next time I see the GP but that’s reassuring.
