Just being nosy really! I've been working from home for years and on maternity so i feel like i've lost touch!

I am usually up at 5.30, leave at 6am to start at 7am - then finish at 3pm and home for 4. This is flextime i have agreed so i can avoid rush hours.

I'm living in the Scottish Borders and working in Edinburgh for reference!

Get up at 6.50 . Drop kids at 7.45. Get train to work ( west London ) for about 9.20 if trains are in time. Leave just after 4.30 and back to get kids about 5.45 then home . I’m meant to do 9-5 but not possible with my train times and childcare so I just work through lunch and do the odd day at home to make up the hours .

Teacaketotty · 29/01/2020 08:41

@wendz86 That's great that they let you make the time up elsewhere - I am realizing that the traditional 9-5 doesn't work that great once you add kids to the mix!

Up at 6.15, get housework done before son leaves for school at 7.40. Drive to work for somewhere between 8.15/8.45 depending on traffic. I work totally flexible hours with no minimum or maximum as long as the work is completed by month end so usually leave around 2/2.30, home by 3.30. Very occasionally work a 'long' day and leave after 5. I know I'm extremely lucky.

MmeCamenbert · 29/01/2020 08:51

I also work from home as a childminder, up at 5.30, shower and get dressed, get oldest you for secondary at 6am, put her on the bus at 7.10am, get home, other 2 up and breakfast etc..... 1st child arrives 7.15-8am, get my 2 on primary school bus 8.15, work until 6pm, collapse and drink wine!!!

HowToGetToSesameStreet · 29/01/2020 08:54

My DC are teens now and my DH is self employed and works mainly from home.

I work Mon-Fri 8.30am-4.30pm. Get up at 6am, leave by 7.30am. I use public transport as I find it more relaxing than driving in rush hour traffic, and I usually get to work by 8.15, as I like to ease in to the day with a coffee while it’s quiet. Home by 5.30pm latest in the evenings.

It’s not possible in my role to work from home. Ideally I’d like a day or two at home and am looking in to different roles that don’t involve a daily commute.

hiimmumma · 29/01/2020 09:07

Up at 6:30/7, nanny arrives or I drop DS off at 8/8:30 (nanny share). Tube to work (to central London) for 9am (often late).
Work all day, eat lunch at my desk. Leave at 6 (often leave late, more like 6:15) to be home before 7 to put DS to bed.

Was doing 4 days a week but cut down to 3 as I felt like I never saw my Son and childcare was so expensive it wasn't worth it financially.

Only one more week until I'm on Mat leave again though and not planning to return Grin

Teacaketotty · 29/01/2020 09:23

@hiimmumma oh congratulations when are you due?

Its definitely tricky to get the balance right so you see them enough and aren't paying out fortunes in childcare!

Up at 5.50am. I get up as soon as the alarm goes off.

I start at 8am, but I set off at 6.30 to avoid traffic (I work near Manchester city centre so lots of traffic builds up on the way) and I have my breakfast when I arrive at work, as I cannot eat straightaway when I wake up.

I leave work/finish at 5pm and get home about 6pm.

I’m currently looking for a new job closer to home.

Forestwitch · 29/01/2020 09:28

Get up at 6am
Do a bit of tidying up, get everyone up at 7am, make breakfasts.
8.30am, leave for my first cleaning job

Noon; home for lunch or eat a packed lunch in car (depends how far from home I am)

1.30pm, go to second cleaning job

5pm, home and then start cooking dinner.

I at least have Friday off to clean my own house and attend appointments. In the summer some days are spent gardening all day (6 + hours).

Teacaketotty · 29/01/2020 09:30

@PhilCollinsFingerWag would you be able to start earlier and finish earlier to avoid the traffic - it changed my life!

Up at 5.55, leave house just before 6.30 to get bus, get to work just after 7, shift starts at 7.30. Shift officially finishes at 8.30pm, rarely leave before 9, get home about 9.30 depending on how long I have to wait for bus. Then there are night shifts but I don't think my night shift schedule is relevant to the OP.

Forestwitch · 29/01/2020 09:33

@MmeCamenbert Lol! I was a CM for six years and had a similar day to yours. First child arrived at 7.30am and didn't leave until 6.30pm some nights (parents were mostly teachers).
I never used to drink before becoming a CM!
Partly why I became a cleaner, shorter days, house to myself, no toys! And best of all, less stress!

Violetroselily · 29/01/2020 09:34

Get up at 5.45, get ready and leave the house at about 6.30. In the office by about 7.15 - try to get a couple of hours peace before everyone else turns up. Spend the day dealing with nonsense, rarely take a lunch break and then I leave any time between 5 and 9 depending on how much shit I have to do/what is the latest fire drill from senior management.

I hate my job.

Forestwitch · 29/01/2020 09:35

@happypotamus Wow! that's a long day. Is it care work by any chance?
You must never see the sun in winter Sad.

itsboiledeggsagain · 29/01/2020 09:41

Get up 7.30 with kids, sometimes a bit earlier if I need to shower/wash hair.
Leave either 8 or 8.30 depending if breakfast club. Drop kids, then hour commute (car, train, walk) arrive at work 9 or 10ish, work til 6, grab a sandwich whenever. Home just about in time for kids bed.
I can arrive later / leave earlier but I have loads of work to do as senior manager. I rarely work at night.

Dh does early start early finish.

Teacaketotty · 29/01/2020 09:42

Some of these hours are seriously long days - I hope you are all well compensated!

OP posts:
itsboiledeggsagain · 29/01/2020 09:43

@violet why do you work such long hours? Is it be choice or are you shift worker?

Reallybadidea · 29/01/2020 09:45

Up at 5.30, leave house at 6.45. At work for 7.20. If I'm on a 'normal' day I leave around 6pm, home for 6.30. If I'm on call I might not leave until the early hours and I might have to go back in to work any time up to about 7am on the following day . On the plus side I get the next day off.

LittleLongDog · 29/01/2020 09:46

Used to be a Teacher:
Leave at 7-7:30, arrive 7:30-8am.
Then either leave at 4 (and continue wfh in the evening) or leave at 6/6:30. To avoid rush hour).
Plus weekend work at home.

Now I work from part time mostly from home and set my own schedule. So much less pay, zero pension etc, but I’m happy.

MmeCamenbert · 29/01/2020 09:59

@Forestwitch wine is definitely my friend!!!

Teacaketotty · 29/01/2020 10:10

@LittleLongDog as long as you can pay the bills and are happy then that's half the battle i think!

I'm lucky to work from home but I work early mornings. Normally roll out of bed at about 2:50am to log on and start work for about 3am, I work through til about 10 or 11am, varies every day.

PhilCollinsFingerWag · 02/02/2020 21:24

@Teacaketotty, unfortunately not. I work as a receptionist for the NHS, and the last patients arrive at 4pm. There is nobody available to let me go early because we are understaffed.

I cannot get up earlier than 5:50 either, it would be too early then as I’d be waiting for the patients to arrive.
Hope another job comes up soon, the sooner the better xx

Lipperfromchipper · 02/02/2020 21:29

Wake up at 7ish wake up dc get them ready etc...drop them to school for 8.30 and then get to work for 9.00, finish work at 2.40,do a little bit of work until 3/3.15 and then go to collect the dc and get home for about 4ish!!

Arrowfanatic · 02/02/2020 21:31

Alarm goes off at 6.45am, up by 7am and shower. Get dressed, make kids breakfasts and lunch boxes. Send them to get cleaned & ready for school whilst I do my make up.

Out the door at 8.30am to walk to school, drop off at 8.40am. Walk back home and dive straight into my car.

Make it to work by 9.05am and then it's just non stop till 5pm or so (lucky to get a lunch break).

Home, pick up youngest from after school club, attend whatever activity we have the evening. Kids to bed, me to bed by 10pm.
