Hip pain waking me every night-anyone else get this?

I'm once again lying awake having been woken up by pain in both hips. More a bad ache. I've recently started on tramadol (been taking for two days) for chronic back pain and it's worked very well but it's not lasting me the night. I'm 43, not overweight, walk 5 miles a day, and feel like an old woman with all these aches and pains Sad Does anyone else suffer hip pain and if so what causes it and what helps?
(General health is too quiet hence posting here).

You can buy a self-test for vit d, google city assays. Normal dose supplements (eg 800 or 1000IU) won't do anything for a severe deficiency, you'd need a loading dose.

I'm a bit put out myself to read that this sort of pain can be caused by a d deficiency. I've taken it in the past for sore hands (or rather I took it because I was deficient and my sore hands felt better) but it hadn't occurred to me that it could cause this kind of seriously disruptive pain. A test for me then.

It's referred pain from my lower back and I've been referred to physio. I've got ibuprofen gel to add to the rest of the painkillers and will be attached to my hot water bottle as often as possible.

I take CBD and it keeps my hip and knee pain at bay.

I do from an old injury. Used to have to crawl out of bed and stand up slowly. Then I bought a decent memory foam mattress topper and the difference was immense.
I'm a side sleeper and my old mattress was knocking my body out of alignment. Now my hip sinks in and is supported and my spine is in the correct position.

Putting weight on also makes it worse.

@SunshineAvenue eventually I was sent for x rays. By that time I was having to adjust how I walked, as normal walking caused sharp pain. I had to walk with my left foot turned out.

You are describing symptoms of osteomalacia. Different to 'everybody's a bit low here'. So they can and should test, as OTC doses aren't enough - check NICE guidelines.

@ 59SunshineAvenue - I am in same boat and wonder how everyone is getting diagnosed?

I've had hip and back problems since last Feb, I pulled my back moving turf, which seemed to have a knock on effect on my back. Then I got plantar fasciitis which affected my gait.

GP said it was probably osteoporosis (As mum/gran have had hip replacements) so no point in x ray, then put me on 2 weeks of naproxen / omeprozole & physio referral.

Both physios gave me back exercises (cobra, knee bends etc) told me that I was to stop using hands to support myself in getting up as core was weakening etc.

The naproxen worked but twists up my stomach and has run out.

last week my hip gave out getting out of the car and I actually screamed out 5 times that day when putting weight on my left leg, I also fell up the stairs when it gave out.

I've tried Pilates but it makes it worse, trying to lose weight and am walking every day, I just don't know what to do next.

Any foot pain? Insoles solves my hip pain. Still get it if I wear the wrong shoes

@Nottobesniffedat I’d go back to your GP and push for the xrays

Have you tried sleeping with a pillow between your legs so that your knees are hip distance apart?

Yoga also helps.
