Any dental hygienists around?

A few years ago, an appointment consisted of a thorough cleaning of your teeth.

These days your teeth are cleaned but you also get a patronising lecture on how to clean your teeth properly. Sometimes with that model of a set of teeth, using disclosing tablets etc.

No! I’m 47, the way I clean my teeth isn’t going to change. And I have no intention of using bloody disclosing tablets.

I just want my teeth cleaned without the lecture.

Yeap ! I'm 54 and get a lecture. Was told on my last visit that gum disease leads to heart disease and dementia. Had the pleasure of paying £60 for that.

I have dental checkups very 6 months and hygienist once a year. Use electric toothbrush but rarely floss. I might end up in hell !

I floss every day, haven’t had a filling for years and my teeth are in pretty good shape.

Yeap. Ditto - without the flossing.

Don't smoke , restrict caffeine but it's not good enough ...

Don't use disclosing tablets, they never come off, you have weird red teeth for 3 months.

Yep! Was at the hygienist today. Had the lecture. Was silently thinking "oh just shut up and clean them like I'm paying you to"! Grin

Then of course she's telling me I must come back in 6 months. I only had a check up the week before but the dentist is too important to do both jobs at the same appointment so according to them it's 4 visits a year required? 2 Dentist and 2 hygienist. There's nothing wrong with my teeth.

The hygienist only works certain days and only takes appointments between 10am and 2pm. So means it takes a chunk out of my working day.

Only in the chair for about 20 mins. £3 a minute is great value to be patronised Wink

By virtue of the fact the hygienist is professionally cleaning your teeth, your oral hygiene probably needs a bit of adjustment.

It isn't a personal attack or anything to be ashamed of; cleaning teeth effectively requires a certain technique. She's just trying to help ☺️
