How to get from potty use at home to toilet out and about

Hello,

So DS is using the potty at home but I'm not sure how we then progress to toilet when out and about.

At the moment he doesn't tell me he needs to go he just strips off and does it. He will use the potty at my mum's but does the same thing.

Do I need to wait until he can articulate that he needs to go or is there something else I could do?

He's 2.5 and is kind of talking but not fully

Thank you

My DS wasn't talking properly yet when he was potty trained but he could say "dee dee" which meant wee wee. We bought a toilet seat that sat within our own seat to progress away from the potty. This meant he was used to using a toilet so it wasn't such a big transition when out. The only thing about public toilets is they seem to be huge so you sort of have to hold on to your DC, unless it's just mine that would always nearly fall down Grin so he didn't always like using them at first.

There’s a transition period where you have to muddle through depending on where you’re going and for how long. I definitely limited long trips at round this time, and only went to places (shopping centres etc) where I knew the toilets were reasonable for toddler use.

You can get a fold-up toilet seat that sits on top of the adult seat to make it easier for DC, I never really bothered with this though. I just held them on the main seat.

Whatever you do (IMO!!) don’t put on a pull-up for when you’re out. Anyone I knew that did this just ended up taking forever to get the DC trained.

here is the fold-up seat

Ditch the potty at home get a step and toilet seat then no real hassles out and about , or take a potty out with you.
