Abandoned baby in London

I've just seen this in the news, it's probably my post natal hormones but I can't help but feel so so sad for him I've even cried! The poor thing has no one to love or cuddle him when he cries or talk to him or hold him when he's awake.

Does anyone know what will happen to him if the mother isn't found? Are the nurses even allowed to cuddle him if he cries?

Of course they are.

ivykaty44 · 27/01/2020 22:59

Lots of people will be allowed to cuddle baby and people will come forward with presents etc poor baby

Poor mum, something has gone terrible wrong for this to happen

FlaskMaster · 27/01/2020 23:00

He'll be being cuddled 24/7. He'll be settled into a foster family who will love and care for him. It may be a foster-to-adopt family where he'll stay permanently if his biological family don't come forward, otherwise he'll be adopted out to one of the thousands of families desperate to adopt a lovely baby like him as their own.

Tolleshunt · 27/01/2020 23:01

I felt similar, Op. Hopefully he will be placed with a foster parent very soon. I hope he gets all the love and cuddles in the world.

I also feel incredibly sorry for his mother. She must need all the love and cuddles in the world too. I hope she gets the support she needs.

Chocmallows · 27/01/2020 23:03

He'll be very wanted. I hope someone can give her a hug and more importantly listen to her and help.

purpleme12 · 27/01/2020 23:05

I thought he'd have put in a foster family by now

crankysaurus · 27/01/2020 23:06

He'll be loved, I worry more for the mum.

PurpleDaisies · 27/01/2020 23:08

This is what emergency foster care is for.

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 27/01/2020 23:10

I worry for the mum too as poor girl must be in a bad way to abandon her baby. Glad he's been found and is safe and will be properly looked after, just hope mum is ok too.

user123455 · 27/01/2020 23:16

Flaskmaster that's good to hear, I honestly had no idea what would happen to him.

I really hope his mum is okay too, I hope she has someone she can speak to.

Poor woman.
I’m glad the baby was found and is safe.

Purpleartichoke · 28/01/2020 01:35

Just curious, do you have free surrender laws there? Where I live, a mother can take a newborn to a fire station, police, hospital, etc, basically anyplace official and safe and turn over the baby to the state without consequence. It’s to keep babies from being left in circumstances like this where they might be at risk from the elements before being found.

Didkdt · 28/01/2020 01:36

If you look at the pictures he's been cared for someone loved him very much and must be in a bad way to have abandoned him
Its highly unlikely at this stage that he's gone to foster to adopt because the background is so unknown, but there are a lot of Foster Carers out there with a lot of hugs.
I hope his mother is traced for her sake and his (going forwards) it feels unfathomable because to love and care for a baby and then leave him alone seems impossible but sometimes things really do seem that stark and horrific that leaving him where he'll be found is the greatest gesture
Of love a someone can offer

SleepingStandingUp · 28/01/2020 01:39

The nurses will absolutely pounce on him, he won't be left to scream in a corner op.

stellabelle · 28/01/2020 01:42

The nurses ( and doctors !) will be queuing up to give cuddles ! And most hospitals also have volunteer " grandmothers" who spend their days cuddling the babies . That baby will not go short of love, I can assure you .

EL8888 · 28/01/2020 01:43

^ totally this. There is probably a queue of nurses trying to cuddle and settle him

midwestfornow · 28/01/2020 01:46

After he has left hospital and the nurses' cuddles he will have lots of cuddles from a foster carer.
His mum is likely to be in a much more vulnerable position.

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/01/2020 01:52

I know someone who has fostered many babies and she is the cuddliest, warmest woman I've ever met.

ChattyLion · 28/01/2020 02:33

Thinking of mum and baby both and hoping that they both get very long term support after this.

milveycrohn · 28/01/2020 02:43

Someone I know was a foster carer for young children, and was once the foster carer for a new born baby.
She was appointed by Social Services for the baby, and was asked by the hospital if she would come in each day to spend time with the baby (feed baby, and cuddle baby, etc).
Obviously, I have no idea if this has, or will happen in this case, but I mention this to let you know that the staff will do their very best for the baby.

LucaFritz · 28/01/2020 02:45

This made me snuggle DS extra tight when i saw it Sad he even looks similar to my DS which made it worse. I hope they find his mother and get them both the help they need i just can't what situation she must be in to have had to do that

DeTwamps · 28/01/2020 03:00

There will be police officers who were involved coming in to visit for a sneaky cuddle and being hushed away by nurses. Baby will be very loved! I'd imagine every nurse will want to be in charge of him. I hope he finds a good home, be that with his mother or with foster parents.

His mother on the other hand, was in so desperate a situation that she left him. I would worry that nobody is giving her a cuddle.

DeTwamps · 28/01/2020 03:01

I thought the police statement was lovely if any of you read it. Very personal.

DeTwamps · 28/01/2020 03:05

Detective Sergeant Andy Barry said: “Edward is being well cared for by hospital staff and is a healthy, bonny lad.
“I am reaching out to Edward’s mother. You are my primary concern. I do not know the circumstances around Edward’s birth but, as a father myself, I understand how daunting becoming a parent can be.

“I can offer you help, please be assured that you are not in trouble. Edward is safe and well, and your health and wellbeing is our priority.

“To anyone who may know Edward’s mother, I’d urge you to come forward and help me locate her – this can be done in confidence.

“I’d also like to hear from anyone who was in the Sandringham Road area between 10am and 12pm on Saturday January 25. If you noticed anything or saw someone, please contact us as a matter of urgency.”

Crunched · 28/01/2020 03:05

I don’t believe we do have a free surrender law in the UK unlike many US states.
