Would your 6/7 year old boy play in a playhouse ?

Ds doesn’t seem to play innit the way dd used to, so I’m tempted to turn it into a mini shed or replace it with a large shed

It has a play kitchen and table n chairs in it at the moment
I could try adding some bean bags?

The fact he doesn’t play with it isn’t because he’s a boy so it’s a bit daft to only ask for people with boys for advice. Children like different things, even siblings. Penises have nothing to do with it 😂

lottiegarbanzo · 27/01/2020 10:06

Sounds a bit 'young' for my 7yo dd.

What's the point of the thread? You'fre going to tell him he's 'playing wrong', if other people's children would like it? Or are you hanging on to it in case he changes his mind / personality and decides to play in it later? Why not just draw conclusions from your own individual child's behaviour?

AmazingGreats · 27/01/2020 10:09

I think they are for younger children really. Some children play with those things younger than others. My experience of 6/7 year olds is that a lot of them do not engage in that kind of imaginative play/ role play any more and are more interested in devices, sport, Lego, crafts, etc. And forming their own distinct interests, not just generally 'playing' anymore

My DS6 would totally play in a play house, he loves that shit. My friend's DS6 wouldn't have any interest in it at all. It varies from child to child and has little to do with gender :) So I'd just wait to see if your DS plays in it, and if he doesn't then I guess you can think up what else you'd like to do with that space instead!

TimeForAParty · 27/01/2020 10:32

My DD would be happier with it as a craft station, or a few bean bags to sit on and look at books rather than to play "house" in.

Even better if it was hers and her elder sibling wouldn't be allowed in.

I would love to have the outdoor space for something like that. She could keep all her slime in there Grin

Katinski · 27/01/2020 13:03

William, of Just William fame, would have loved one for him and his Gang.No grown-ups and definitely NO GIRLSGrin

Imaystillbedrunk · 27/01/2020 13:33

My 7 would probably play on occasion one or two times with his little brother, and then ask to play football 🤷‍♀️

Lardlizard · 27/01/2020 13:44

Of course I’m not going to tell him he’s playing wrong !
Just trying to decide shall I do something with it like Adding bean bags
Maybe making it more older kid friendly or perhaps add some clear n craft things in there or any other Ideas really or just use it as storage

I could remove and sell the kitchen it was one of them fancy wooden American style ones
So could probably raise a few quid on eBay

What does your DS like playing? Does he fit comfortably inside the playhouse still? If he does, how about converting/decorating it a bit to suit his interests. It could be a den/clubhouse for him and his friends to retreat to. It could be a Lego Workshop. It could be an art studio. My DS from a similar age LOVED fossils and rocks and little bits of treasure he was forever finding -- we built a little 'museum' in his bedroom for his treasures. A playhouse would have been even better... as long as he's not getting too tall for it.

Basecamp65 · 27/01/2020 13:51

Ask him what he would like in it?

Novel idea I know but just a suggestion.

Lardlizard · 27/01/2020 13:56

Black ink he’s into xbox and Lego ! He would probably love it if he had a console inthere and a bean bag ! But a Lego studio is a fab idea if could put plenty of shelves for the creations

Basecako, do know what I actually feel really sorry for people that are rude for no reason
💐💐if only I could get you a life 💁🏻‍♀️

I'm not sure I'd trust a playhouse to be secure enough for an xbox and screen overnight! But a lego workshop sounds AWESOME.

My son would probably love it if it was filled with bean bags and fairy lights with a ton of books. Private reading cubby ftw. Okay now I have the jealous...

Howmanysleepsnow · 27/01/2020 14:28

Mine would if it was entered by a ladder/ he could camp out in it/ he could build a fortress for his figures to battle over/ he could shoot nerf guns from it/ draw on a chalkboard on the walls/ keep it stocked with biscuits and drinks

TimeForAParty · 27/01/2020 14:53

I'm pretty sure my DCs' lego collections cost more than an xbox....

VenusClapTrap · 27/01/2020 16:09

My ds loved playhouses, but when he was younger. He’s 7 now and I don’t think he’d use one now. Possibly as a reading nook.

If I was you I’d be moving my garden tools in. I could do with a shed.

Damntheman · 27/01/2020 21:56

Solid point there @TimeForAParty!

Lardlizard · 29/01/2020 07:55

Time for a party that’s so true ! 🤣
