Does this sound like any condition, e.g PCOS/endo?

Hey 👋 so have been back and forth to doctors about this and I have only got as far as being given tramadol on repeat. I have had 2 scans in the last couple of years (had to beg for those) and they were clear, but I know my body and know something’s off. I was supposed to get a colposcopy last year but the referral switched to a different hospital who refused to do it because I’m under 25 (the whole point I was referred for this was to surpass the over-25 limit for smears

)

Anyway, here’s my history:

18 months ago was in A+E with severe cramping. At first thought it was ovarian torsion, they scanned and said I had 3 cysts and wanted to watch them in case it was a torsion etc. One ended up bursting while I was in hospital and I had sepsis, was kept in for 8 days (I think it was 8?)

I was advised to have a TOP at that point as I was 8 weeks and doctors said everything that had gone on would have been dangerous for the pregnancy. I just kind of went with it because I was scared of the outcome if I didn’t. Sidenote - was scanned at 8 weeks before the TOP (surgical) and there was no heartbeat yet, is that normal?

Since then I have been TTC again on and off, works out as 13 months in total but as I say they’re on and off so now that I’m continuously going to be trying I’m just counting as cycle 2.

My periods are very very painful. I have acupressure mats and spend most of my period laying on the cold floor or on the mat, or in bed surrounded by an electric blanket and hot water bottles. I have vomited a couple of times from period pain and often feel like I’m going to pass out when I’m on my period.

I have had visits to a&e multiple times for transexamic acid for the heavy bleeding.

Sex is often painful. It feels like a sharp digging. My partner definitely does not have a spikey penis (lol) so I don’t know why it feels like that? We stick to it during fertile window usually as I’d rather have the pain and try than not try at all, but he often has to stop as he says he can’t continue because he sees my face and feels like he’s raping me as I look like I’m in pain I guess? Once or twice I have also had dark purple/black bleeding after sex.

I have horrible cramps but also bad back pain and pain radiating down legs during my period. I also passed a decidual cast last year, but have read that is nothing to be worried about?

I get ovulation pain and often cramp from ovulation right through to my period and then some, it’s like the cramping just doesn’t go.

To summarise: my periods are hell. I’m sick of being young and unable to have fun, pain free sex. My doctors don’t want to hear about it and just give me tramadol on repeat. I’m worried my fertility will be problematic too but don’t want to get testing as I think my partner will think I’m overreacting and get a bit freaked out, as the TTC thing is kind of an “if it happens, great, if it doesn’t, we can wait” kind of thing for him, he makes up for my extreme lack of patience. How can I get help please? I’m in Edinburgh if anyone has any recommendations?

Side note — those little acupuncture needles, do they work well for endo?

No, I don’t.

Don’t miss work though, the walk in is usually for new problems that are urgent & this is chronic isn’t it?.

LLBandTTC · 28/01/2020 12:48

@fluffycloudland77 yeah I suppose just feels urgent in my head when they’re telling me to ask for fertility testing :( feel so confused

The clinic has done you a favour. Now you can go back your GP and say that the clinic thinks your need to be tested ASAP for endo and fertility.

It moves things from a woman complaining about a bit a period pain to “proper medical stuff” Angry

Endo is horrible and I struggled with it for far too long. Keep pushing, there is a growing awareness of poor record of diagnosis in the UK.

One really important tip - start taking NSAID like mafenamic acid just before your period starts. If you take them before the pain really breaks through they can damp down the build up of pain messengers (prostaglandins) Sotheby’s pain peaks at a lower level.

How it is thought reasonable to leave women in such pain is beyond me. Even fully loaded with painkillers some days I could only crawl around.

Every patient is urgent to themselves. Don’t mis-use a walk in clinic though, they are busy enough for the staff.

LLBandTTC · 28/01/2020 15:09

Yes! mafenamic Acid is what they gave me! I’m glad someone’s mentioned using it as i had never heard of it before @ChazsBrilliantAttitude I know I’m really glad they’ve actually listened this time!

So got a phone appointment with gp who talked to me then just said actually come in, and he’s fertility testing with normal bloods tomorrow and then a day 21 blood in a couple of weeks to check with the ovulation. So relieved I’m being listened to finally!

That’s great news Flowers

I nearly cried when I found something that worked for me.

I had endo for 25 years before being diagnosed finally last year. First went to the GP age 14 about period pain that would wake me at night, have me lying on floor in agony and rushing to the toilet in my teens.
I had severe stage 4 endometriosis adenomyosis (also pcos).
I had to go private to be treated as I was sent on my way a few months ago to take the pill. 25 years after going to GP for first time, I had endo removed from 10 places about in a very complex op.
You need to push push push for them to do something. Ask to be referred to a BSGE centre as with pain during sex it could be deep invasive endo.
Whatever you do don’t leave it as it gets progressively worse- I was bed bound a lot in the last year with the pain.
Facebook has a few support groups- uk endometriosis group and Nancy’s nook is a US site with lots of useful info.

Some people will know MA by its brand name of Ponstan.

I don’t tolerate NSAID well as they cause me gastric irritation but most people are fine. Just don’t take them on an empty stomach.

One positive side effect is that NSAID also reduce blood flow and are used to treat heavy periods too.

@LLBandTTC that's great, I'm glad you're getting somewhere.
If you're periods are heavy, maybe ask for Tranexamic acid along side the Mefenamic.

Good luck
