Numbness in leg.. would you go to work?

cjt110 · 27/01/2020 07:59

Continuing from my thread over the weekend my Mum asked was I going to work today. I said yes. Of course I was.

It dawned on me, should i be going? Would others not? For those not having seen the previous thread i was in hospital over the weekend with numbness from the hip to the foot. Not complete numbness and no loss of sensation.

Drs ruled out a stroke and cauda Equina syndrome. Still unsure of the cause.

Yes, I would.

MsMarvel · 27/01/2020 08:07

Yes i would. Can you still walk on it ok?

ineedaholidaynow · 27/01/2020 08:10

How do you get to work? What does your work involve? Are you going to have any more medical tests?

Depends on what your job is?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 27/01/2020 08:12

Yes

EmpressJewel · 27/01/2020 08:18

Yes, I would, providing you can work safely and productively.

AmyFl · 27/01/2020 08:43

I wouldn't if I drove to work- could be dangerous.

cjt110 · 27/01/2020 08:50

I drive to work. Am an administrator and work in an office sat all day. Can walk fine

Yes you'll be fine.

Do you suggest from health anxiety by the way? I notice your user name a lot with various health issues

cjt110 · 27/01/2020 08:51

Sitting in the car and driving has made it numb. Its my righr leg

URPS · 27/01/2020 08:52

I'd go to work.. I did go to work when the same thing happened to me.

Turned out to be MS. Did you have a MRI ?

GaaaaarlicBread · 27/01/2020 08:53

If you’re sat down in an office I’d go to work (that’s what I do too), but if you were a PE teacher then maybe not . You should be fine , if it carries on go back to the GP

cjt110 · 27/01/2020 08:53

Suffer? A little. But i have a fair few pre existing conditions

OP posts:
cjt110 · 27/01/2020 08:57

@URPS yes . Had an MRI on Saturday but no suggestion of MS

Oh that's good then. Hope you get some answers soon.

I've had numbpins and needles legs and arms for 2.5 years now.. luckily it's not painful!

cjt110 · 27/01/2020 10:24

Its a very strange sensation isn't it and I', sure, regardless of the outcome there is little they can do. But it's frustrating not knowing what it is!

It's uncomfortable because the numbness is from my hip, through my buttock, thigh, leg and foot. Not painful though

Can you go and see an osteopath or a physio? I would go to work and perhaps change position of my car seat and drive there wearing different pair of shoes.

Bluesheep8 · 27/01/2020 10:34

Not complete numbness and no loss of sensation.
??
I go to work with numbness/loss if sensation regularly (MS) I find that having to think about something else helps.

TinnedPearsForPudding · 27/01/2020 10:47

Are you safe to drive? You have numbness in your leg you use to brake. Maybe check with your insurance company?

wibblysnail · 27/01/2020 10:55

It depends on your job, office worker yes, taxi driver no in case it affects the ability to drive safely

DimplesMcGee · 27/01/2020 10:59

I'm a bit confused by you saying there's no loss of sensation but there is numbness - what am I missing?

I'd be a bit concerned about driving with a numb foot - how well can you feel the peddles? Is it a job where you could work from home?

cjt110 · 27/01/2020 11:31

sorry I meant not full numbness and no loss of movement. It's like 20% numbness.. not complete. Like when your arm is coming back awake after you've been laid on it.

I can drive fine but my bum is numb and tingly when driving. It's my right foot.

Have been referred to neurophysiology for further tests.

I've had the ability to WFH declined when I requested it previously due to another health condition.

every now and then the numbness comes into my right arm. Again, no loss of movement or complete numbness

dappledsunshine · 27/01/2020 13:40

I don't think you should be driving with those symptoms and definitely not until you know the underlying cause.

DimplesMcGee · 27/01/2020 13:49

May seem like a really random suggestion, but have you had your B12 levels checked? I have B12 deficiency and it can do real damage to your nerves. I have one numb toe (full movement, no sensation) and get severe pins and needles in my hands and arms - especailly when my B12 injection is due.

cjt110 · 27/01/2020 14:09

@DimplesMcGee No I don't believe I have. Thanks for the suggestion.
