Coronavirus and travelling

Anyone else thinking they would rather not go on holiday until we know how serious this virus is?
We have a holiday booked for half term (within Europe) and I'm feeling like I would rather just stay at home until we know more Xmas Shock DH thinks I'm being completely irrational!

Not irrational. This virus is REAL and spreading fast!

HepburnKNotA · 26/01/2020 20:45

I’m with you OP (and DH is with your DH!!)

We had been thinking of (not yet booked) a trip to Paris is half term.

I’m currently looking after DD who has a virus and it’s reminded me how she is THAT child who gets every virus that passes by.

As we’ve not actually booked, I’m not inclined to book. France has 3 cases. Obv that’s an infinitesimally small proportion of the population - so far - but why risk it? We would be travelling with an elderly relative who has recently survived pneumonia. I’m not sure I want to take any risk, however fractional.

Irrational, maybe.

I think you are being irrational.

I wouldn’t be booking to go to China but other than that I don’t see why you would have to change your plans. Unless you are planning on never leaving the house/going in to a big city?

Have quite a few trips coming up in Europe and I have no concerns...

I’ll be on that plane for Canary island come March.
Come what may.

I don't think this is unreasonable- if you're going to be travelling by plane and using all of the facilities in an airport (exchanging money at cafes/shops; using very busy airport toilets that are used by travellers from all over the world etc.) then it is a risk. It might be a very small risk and the virus might turn out not to be as contagious as originally thought but I think that the extreme measures that are being taken in China and the fact that it has arrived in Europe are cause for concern.

Also people are contagious during the symptom-free incubation period, which means that they can probably spread viral particles from their saliva or faeces onto surfaces before they have a fever or other symptoms.

You can't control how you feel OP. Personally i have my holidays booked and i intend to go on them all unless it really blows up and they put travel warnings out for all countries.

My mum is travelling to las vegas today from London airport, she's not overly worried.

Hannahmay191 · 26/02/2020 10:23

I am so unsure what to do. I'm 14 weeks pregnant and due to go to Tenerife on Saturday. Going with husband and friends. They all think I'm over-reacting but I'm genuinely really scared of going. Should I just let him go ahead? I'm actually quite shocked none of our friends understand why I'm worried.

We’ve a trip planned from Australia to the U.K. in June, as yet unbooked and we’re really umming over it for a few reasons - we’re coming to see our parents who are all in their 70s, what if we are quarantined after the flight or when we get back etc.
