Netflix - what have I missed?

I had it for a while then cancelled around 6 months ago as I didn't feel I was getting much out of a subscription anymore, but now there's a few shows I want to watch so I'm considering getting another month or two...what have I missed? Stranger Things season 3 was the last thing I saw so anything from July onwards that's a can't miss!

My 'to watch' list is:
The Witcher
The Stranger
You (season 2)

Typically enjoy fantasy, crime drama and true crime, and some sci fi (nothing too complicated or hard to follow though!)

First time around I watched and enjoyed Stranger Things, Dirk Gently, Making a Murderer, Abducted in Plain Sight, The Confession Tapes, Jessica Jones amongst others.

Van Helsing
From Dusk Til Dawn the series
Santa Clarita Diet

Bluewavescrashing · 02/02/2020 12:53

How scary is The Dark?

Pumperthepumper · 02/02/2020 13:01

Cheer is excellent and absolutely not what I thought it was going to be. Is Inside Number 9 still on Netflix? That’s a really clever, twisted programme.

Agree with others that Unbelievable is the best series I've seen for some time. Very hard hitting, though. But it makes most of the itv/bbc/channel 4 crime dramas look a bit crap.

YappityYapYap · 02/02/2020 13:06

Unbelievable

Killer inside (Aaron Hernandez story)

I am a killer (it's about people on death row and why they're there, surprisingly none of them are actually psycho serial killers or anything, mostly wrong place wrong time type situations although they aren't saints by any means)

I'm about to start watching the Stranger over the coming days I think

Aridane · 05/02/2020 00:31

Fuck me - have just binge watched Messiah. It blew me away. Is there a separate thread on Messiah?

theflushedzebra · 05/02/2020 00:40

Messiah was amazing.

MinkowskisButterfly · 05/02/2020 01:06

The witcher
The stranger
October faction
Timeless

All must sees in my opinion.

MinkowskisButterfly · 05/02/2020 01:09

Ooh theres a few on here that I haven't seen that I will watch when I get chance.

BlackCatSleeping · 05/02/2020 01:42

I second most of those listed. I also found the Inside the Mind of Aaron Hernandez really compelling. I’m currently watching Insatiable. It’s so silly but I can’t help it!!

My friend said Next in Fashion is good, but I haven’t watched it yet.

AppleJane · 06/02/2020 15:58

@Aridane
just binge watched Messiah. It blew me away

It's the best thing I've seen in ages. I think people must be put off watching this (maybe getting the wrong impression of it)

It's certainly not being talked about enough!!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 06/02/2020 16:05

Does Cheer improve,I got to episode 3 and am am a bit bored?

The Stranger
Ozarks
Dead to me
You
Grace and Frankie
Stranger Things

PlausibleSuit · 06/02/2020 16:07

Inside No.9 is currently on Netflix, if you didn't see it when it was on the BBC. Not exactly in any of your stated genres but it kind of hovers around the edges of fantasy and crime.

heymammi · 08/02/2020 14:33

@Bluewavescrashing it's not scary, I thought that too and its definitely worth a watch.

SuperMeerkat · 08/02/2020 15:44

Orange is the new black
Jane the virgin

SuperMeerkat · 08/02/2020 15:46

Lucifer

Aridane · 08/02/2020 21:24

Orange is the New Black peaked for me after a couple,of seasons . Couldn’t then be assed to,watch any more

Sn0tnose · 08/02/2020 21:47

I watched ‘Tell Me Who I Am’ this afternoon. Bloody brilliant.

MinkowskisButterfly · 11/02/2020 10:56

I've heard Locke and Key is good, not watched it myself yet but going to try it.

Sleepysnoozysnooze · 11/02/2020 13:18

Another shout for Messiah from me! Thought it was amazing! Very perplexed to go online and see that it was almost universally slated by the critics, but message boards are full of people raving about it. What's that about? Loved it anyway 😀

Also loved Don't F*ck with Cats and just finished watching AJ and the Queen. It's a RuPaul show - acting is a bit iffy, you know exactly how it's going to turn out about 5 mins in, but I flippin loved it Grin

BearSoFair · 11/02/2020 14:22

Loved The Stranger, that was the main reason I rejoined and it would have been worth it for that one show alone! Did not see that ending coming, at all.

Enjoying The Witcher too, just about to start episode 4.

I haven't even got around to the others yet so I can see I'll be keeping it for more than the month I planned for!

Yeah, the end to the Stranger was not what I expected at all. I started watching Travellers last night, only watched one episode so far but looks like it is going to be really good.

MinesaPinot · 13/02/2020 14:19

I was off sick with the lurgy the early part of this week so Netflix was my friend.

I had a binge watch of the first series of 'Horrible Histories'. Fabulous. Every time I see the Cilit Bang advert I will hear 'hello, I'm a Loud Shouty Man'!

Also watched:

Shakespeare in Love - hadn't seen it in years, lovely film

Once upon a Time in London - low budget gangster film set in the 20's/30's about Jack Comer and Billy Hill (two real life London gangsters). It was ok, could have been a lot better.

Phantom Thread - Daniel Day Lewis' last film before he retired. He plays a London couturier in the 50's who meets a waitress who becomes his model, muse and lover. I loved it. Fantastic performances all round, particularly Lesley Manville.

Next thing to start is The Stranger.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 13/02/2020 14:26

Can you get The Umbrella Academy on UK Netflix?

waterlego · 13/02/2020 14:35

Some brilliant shows being recommended here.

Would like to add:

The Pharmacist- 4 part documentary about a pharmacist in the US who starts his own investigations into the opiate epidemic in his town following a personal tragedy. He’s a real life hero, and the show is more compelling than it sounds, and one of those that has you going WTF? every 5 minutes.

For those who liked The Stranger, I can recommend Safe, another Harlan Coben drama. A couple of years old now but a good watch if you haven’t yet seen it.
