Have namechanged as this is a bit embarrassing Blush...

Back in September I had an abscess just alongside my armpit. I am 99% certain it was caused by using a bit of a grimy ladyshave Blush. Not helped by the fact that due to a bad shoulder I can't straighten my arm so have to kind of ram the ladyshave under my armpit and scrape away in quite a heavy handed way in the hope of doing a reasonable job of it!! This I think, coupled with the less than sparkling shaver caused an abrasion into which the germ did its nasty work!

So fast forward 4 months and I'm too scared to shave now in case it happens again. I did gingerly try a razor a month ago but it wasn't man enough for the job as a verital forest has grown... Shock.

Can someone recommend a fantastic shaver that will get me smooth and silky again that will work on an armpit that isn't easy to get to as I can't straighten my arm. I'm so nervous about shaving again as i don't want another abscess but I can't bear being hairy any longer. Please help!

Would going to a salon for a wax be better.

Hair removal cream?

Jhairy · 26/01/2020 16:27

Hi. Great suggestions but no go as I have very sensitive skin....last time I used Immac I ended up with a nasty sore rash and waxing nearly made me pass out!

Could you clipper it very short?

FreedomBird · 26/01/2020 17:39

Might be a silly suggestion, but do you need to? Could you give it a break? It is winter after all and my armpits are tucked away inside jumpers and coats!

Do you have a relative or friend that could help you? I sometimes do DD's for her...

Babyfg · 26/01/2020 18:15

I use the veet shaver. Would that be any use. I do it on dry skin so less risk of it going grimey

Depends on your budget, but laser hair removal is a life changer. And it pays for itself in the long run.

Jhairy · 26/01/2020 18:55

Thanks all for your suggestions. I'm a bit Blush to ask for assistance...dh would probably wrinkle his nose a bit and dd would run a mile! Couldn't possibly ask a friend! @FreedomBird ...that's me atm, but I cant wear short sleeves and need to sort it soon...am away with the girls in March and we are staying somewhere with a hot tub...yikes!! Will have a look at the Veet shaver, thanks. I think I need something slimline and a really close, efficient shave. Laser might be something for the back burner. Thanks all

@Spanielmadness...re clippers that might get it a more manageable length to get a close shave with a razor...just so scared of nicking myself and getting another infection Sad

I've just bought six sessions of laser for the underarm area for £31 on groupon. Might be good, might be rubbish but for thirty quid I thought it would be worth it!

If it's long, you're MUCH more likely to cut yourself using a standard razor straight away. Trim it short using a dry electric razor, hop into the shower, exfoliate and then shave using a new razor and shaving foam (or conditioner). Then moisturise when you get out. My underarms get really itchy and irritated and this helps.
