Does anyone have a dental plan and is it worth it?

No nhs dentists around here so I go to a private one.

I needed a lot of treatment last year so was advised to go for the plan £20pm. Now things have settled down I’m thinking it’s not worth it. I can just pay for a check up/fillings etc as I go along. Any views?

We have denplan It basically spreads the cost of visit plus hygienist over the year

I have a plan through work. DH and I have bad teeth and it's a constant dilemma if it's worth it or not. I'm inclined to agree that all it does is spread the cost so if you've got a reasonable income and savings you can probably cover the big costs out of your income. It's not like house or car insurance that covers you for potentially an enormous cost.

Yes that’s a good point about just spreading the cost.

I pay £18 per month and for that I get two check ups and four hygienist visits a year and 10% off any necessary treatment. Also includes emergency treatment when away from home. I think it’s really good value.

Yes that’s the deal I get too for £20. Do I really need four hygienist appointments a year though?

I have this.
I think our dentist prefers everybody on it, as it saves them paperwork!
I get 20% off all treatments. Which has probably paid for the plan.
I have good teeth, but one was badly damaged by a school dentist many years ago.
Mostly it is just a direct debit which saves me having to pay for check ups.
But it does include insurance.

I have denplan - the amount is pay is equivalent to 2 check ups and 2 hygienist a year so if I do need any work I then save money
Seems daft for me to just pay for the check ups and hygienist instead
