laser eye surgery consultation - can you see afterwards?

Got my initial consultation for laser eye surgery monday morning - they rang me to confirm today and suggested I should bring someone with me because as part of the check I'd be having drops in my eyes and might need assistance. Because it's the middle of the day there's nobody I can ask this short notice as friends, dp, family etc. will all be working. Has anybody who's had the consultation tell me if I will be able to see well enough to get home afterwards?

I've had the yellow drops put in before as part of normal eye tests and could see perfectly fine immediately afterwards so assumed it would just be like this but the way the woman suggested it (also told to bring sunglasses!) was as though I'd be practically blind! Or do they just have to warn you just in case for the odd person who might have an extreme reaction?

I'm fine to get a bus or even taxi home rather than drive, but just need to know if I'll need help to get on the right bus Grin

They are different to the yellow dye drops, they basically make your close vision very blurred, though if you’re short-sighted (myopic) you’ll be fine for distance with your glasses on. (Although you can take your glasses off the read of your short-sighted). They make your pupils bigger too, so prescription sunnies are best.
You don’t want to be driving afterwards.

A former boss did need someone to help him make his way home after the consultation and that was on public transport. At the very least, I think you would be sensible to organise a taxi and check they know what you're wearing so that you're not left blearily groping around a car-park. Sorry.

If it's pupil-dilating eye drops then no, it's not like the yellow drops.

I find them horribly discomforting - I get a terrible headache, I can't read or focus for quite a long time afterwards, and my eyes just feel quite sore. I couldn't drive but I think I could have got on a bus and walked.

I didn't have them at either of my laser eye surgery consultations, but perhaps things have changed. They are a standard part of eye tests here in the US so I have them every year or two now. I hate them.

Had DP on standby but it ended up I was fine to get the bus - it was just reading small print etc. that was blurry. Freaky seeing my giant pupils though! anyway thanks all for the advice!
