How to keep a 1 year old amused all day?

What do you do with your 1 year olds?
My LO won't entertain himself and gets bored with toys quickly. I sometimes pop him in a carrier if I'm mopping the floor or dusting etc and once a week we go to a play group but what do you do the rest of the time?

Mine is older now but when he was 1 we’d go for walks, meet other friends with babies the same age, go to soft play, go to music class, the aquarium, to buggy fit. We went to an activity most days and out of the house every day.

I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old and haven’t spent a day in the house for 3 years 😂. Walks, park, play groups, soft play, farms etc. We usually do an activity in the morning for a couple of hours, lunch at home then littlest naps. Sometimes we will go out in the afternoon but more often we will do some craft/ play with toys in the house in the afternoon.

Soft play is ok but at £3.75 a time it soon adds up if we go more than once a week :/

Yup, out and about lots! It gets better as they develop a bit of an attention span.

You have to get out everyday. Park, swimming, library song sessions, supermarket and cafe. I would generally do out in the morning and an in the house activity in the afternoon. Look on Pinterest for ideas for inside ideas.

Out for a walk independently or in pram, bubbles, books, balls and lots of little games (tv if I need to clean 🤣) songs and lots of chatter.

I agree soft play adds up. Parks are great. If you live near a seaside, maybe the beach? Check out free bits near you and look up your local authority's baby groups and library's. Some have groups and activities for free!

I created a routine, different playgroup every morning for one year old, lunch at friends house Wednesday afternoons, Friday after school play date so little one just comes along and joins in, town Monday if I need anything... week flies by!

Goodebe · 24/01/2020 20:42

Have you got any small soft play areas that are a bit cheaper, in garden centres or even supermarkets? Our Morrison’s has a free one in the cafe.

Scotinoz · 24/01/2020 21:22

I went out a lot when mine were small...every morning. It turned into a bit of a routine.
Library
Music group
Tumble tots type group
Park
Coffee
Supermarket (coffee usually followed that)
Garden centre
Shopping mall (good for a walk on wet/hot/etc days)
Friends
Park fit/mum fit/buggy fit
Museum (loads do great toddler activities)
Etc
Home for lunch or picnic lunch
Nap at home
Then Lego, toys, painting, messy play, bubbles, music, etc for a bit
Short walk in pram or actually walk (even if it's just a toddle around the block)
Bit of tv
Then it's dinner and evening routine, by which time dad's are often home to take up the reins 😀

Small child are like dogs - need walked twice daily

Gogolego · 24/01/2020 21:39

The soft play I worked at had like a membership scheme which made it more attractive to go

Library
Swimming
Park
It is harder in the winter months because of the outside opportunities aren't as appealing somehow
