Stranger taking photo of my baby... Why?!

Yes, I need to be more assertive.

Today i took my baby to the park and we were watching some older children feed the swans. He was in his pram.

A lady came up to me and gestured around to the river and area we were standing and said "is it ok if i take a picture?"

Assuming she meant of the general scene, with us in it, I smiled and said of course.

She then knelt down next to the buggy and took a selfie with my baby??!!

She then stood up and walked off without a further word.

Why would someone do this?! I did think about chasing after her and being like "what on earth?! Please delete that!", but a) I'm not assertive in the slightest, and b) I was a little stunned!

(My baby looks like an average baby. Not a stunner..!)

I was on holiday in the lakes with my three children, two brunettes and one white blonde girl with bright blue eyes (she was about 3 at the time) everywhere we went chinese people stopped her and spoke to her, asked for photos, we went on a boat trip and a family bought her sweets and a can of coke! (Which she didnt drink)

My poor plain children were very much ignored! I bet it was the blonde hair.

I get why people want photos of cute babies (all babies are cute by law) and maybe kittens. The selfie thing still feels a bit odd to me, but maybe another culture does things differently.

It's so weird. This happened to me in an airport and it likely wasn't but felt sinister.i was playing with my then baby girl, an Asian lady came over and asked could she take a photo, I said " no, that's weird" and as she walked away I saw her point at me and shake her head, communicating with a man standing across the concourse. So I watched, and he kept watching from afar while she asked others. I told the gate check in staff. They clearly thought I was nuts.

Me and my dd were always getting asked for photos in Egypt. Always by women, I hasten to say. Her I can understand as she was a stunning 18 year old. Me, as a fat greying podge I couldn’t. The weirdest was soaking wet and sweaty and pink at the pool. She had groups of young women wanting to do pouty model poses with her.

My DS has dark hair and had lots of people asked for photos of him in Hong Kong and Singapore (airports) - but that's because he's super cute.
