I need a new one. Who knew it could be so complicated?

Prices seem to range from £20 to £200. Are they really that varied? Does it really make a difference?

I think my last one was a mid range one that I got on a good black Friday deal or similar years and years ago, but it's died.

Open to recommendations under £100!

I bought an oral b pro2 2500 crossAction, I think I paid £35 on amazon and it still looks like its that price, reduced from £79.99, I love it, its got a 4 way split timer, so how long to spend on each of the 4 areas of your mouth, its fab!

DontCallMeShitley · 24/01/2020 14:38

My Oral B was reduced to £50 but it didn't last long.

I don't want my teeth connected to the internet so went for the most basic I could find. I am back to using a normal brush.

Best ones I ever had were battery operated ones, no charger.

I’ve got this one and I buy the hard heads for it. It’s great, the charge lasts for weeks!

We have a basic Oral B one, has the 4 way split timer. Was about £40 and we've had it about 3 years.

InkogKneeToe · 24/01/2020 14:45

Buggedandconfused what are the 5 modes? This is what I don't understand. Surely I just need a brush mode?!

I'm currently having a lot of dental work done after pregnancy successfully destroyed my teeth, so want something half decent at least!

Get one with a rotating head rather than a sonic one, they're better

HardAsSnails · 24/01/2020 14:51

I've just switched my old Phillips for an Oral B 'junior' (just over £20) as it takes the same brush heads as the other Oral Bs, has no frills, was cheap, and comes in bright colours. It does the job.

Teeth connected to the internet Grin you made me spit my tea out Don't!

OP agree rotating head over sonic and you absolutely don't have to spend anywhere near £100. Make sure your flossing too and my dentist has been badgering me for about a year to use those interdental toothpicks .... I do and I'm now gutted I didn't start before, my mouth and teeth feel so so much better.

They're sending me to see the something or other therapist once it's done, I'm also on medication that affects my gums so they're hoping to reverse some of the recession. I've tried flossing, I just can't. Some teeth have gaps between them (where teeth were removed as a teenager and there's still a bit of a gap) and others are so close together I can't get anything between them!

Ahhhh hopefully they'll have some different ideas then. Best of luck with the appointment OP.

GroggyLegs · 24/01/2020 16:17

My dentist advised to go for an Oral B from 2500 series up because they have the pressure sensor.

I got the smart 4 for £37 on Groupon. I CBA with connecting my teeth to the internet but does a good job - timer, 3 brush modes - and battery life seems decent.

safariboot · 24/01/2020 16:23

Mine's an Oral B. I don't remember the model number. It doesn't have any kind of "gadget" features or phone connectivity of the likes, but it does have a few different modes. There's standard, then there's sensitive which slows it down a bit (which I use), 'gum care' which sort of pulses, and I think there might be a fourth.

Look out for sales and discounts.
