So dc is having an mri, I know he can’t have any metal on his clothes and I know I have to have empty pockets etc but can I have metal on me? Underwire bra, metal zip on jeans?? It doesn’t specify about the parent just child?

Asda sell a really good sports bra for about £3. No clips or wires........I got one for when I had my MRI.

okiedokieme · 24/01/2020 07:55

I was allowed to keep my bra on when I accompanied dd. There's a locker you put shoes, wallet, phone etc into. I took a book to read, they get to listen to music.

Ps dd is autistic and was fascinated by how it worked - poor technician got asked the specifications (she had researched on the internet ahead, she was 8)

I accompanied DD and kept bra on. Assumed I would have till take it off but didn't. I even asked to make sure.

Wonderingwhyme · 24/01/2020 07:58

He isn’t going to be sedated. I think we can do it without as I’ll be with him, taking a dvd as they can watch one through a mirror contraption thing. I might take a second pair of socks!

The only thing is he has to have a cannula put in but he doesn’t have any jumpers without zips so he’s going to get cold? Do they allow you to have a blanket? He has t lay on his front. When they put the dye in the cannula, that’s half way through isn’t it? Of course I will ask all these questions before it starts I just want to be prepared! Presumably he can shift about a bit whilst they put that in..

They will put lots of blankets on him if it is cold in there. My very anxious DD has had three and did really well. I hope your son does ok. Big hugs for you. I know how nerve wracking it will be.

Sinittasdancers · 24/01/2020 08:04

I've had numerous MRI scans and always wear my underwired bra and my wedding ring in the machine - I've been told it's fine. But nothing loose, no makeup with glitter in.

Sinittasdancers · 24/01/2020 08:06

For the cannula, they'll put it in his hand before then just wheel him out to quickly hook up the drip and wheel him back in.

Ginfordinner · 24/01/2020 08:12

Take something to read along with you or you will get bored. Obviously not an electronic device. Are you allowed to take a blanket from home along with you?

Good luck. I hope it goes without a hitch.

I went in with my dd last year, I wore skinny jeans with zip and button and underwire bra and was fine, I had to remove my glasses though like pp said no loose metal. They took my glasses into the room to check them and cane out and said I couldn't wear them. Sat for the whole time blind just so my dd could see me 😆. She was able to take a dvd and wore headphones (it's very noisy) I was given headphones too. If she looks in a mirror she can see me sitting behind her.

Wonderingwhyme · 24/01/2020 08:20

I will be taking a book as we have an hour wait for him to drink that drink. I’ll be fine if I’m cold, I just get very cold feet and Just in case I have to take my boots off I’ll take an extra pair of socks!

Hope it went ok

Wonderingwhyme · 24/01/2020 14:56

Thank you, it was ok. He managed well. I only took off my watch and earrings oh and my shoes had to be left by the door... but inside the room??

I’m not expecting any results until we see the paed next but IF there was something urgent seen on it, would they pass it to a doctor?

glad it went ok and fingers crossed for next steps
