Do you look after your skin?

Just wondering how much people do to their skin? Do you have a regular routine or just use soap? Do you consciously drink water / eat well and do you think it makes a difference?

I love face products and having facials etc but I always think about my Grandma who looks amazing and has only ever really used Astral/Nivea and simple cheap products.

Curious about everyone else

Yes. I have routine with The ordinary serums, oils and acids, an electric facial brush and a minor sheet mask addiction. I drink loads of water and take vegan collagen. I don't drink much or smoke and use sunscreen. My mum has bad wrinkles and I have always been very conscious of that but she was the opposite. By rights my skin should be amazing but I have an anxious picking habit and so the texture isnt great. I need to invest in microdermabrasion and stop squeezing things that arent there.

penisbeakers · 24/01/2020 05:29

I use olive oil to wash my face and moisturise my body. My skin has never felt softer or in better condition.

BriefDisaster · 24/01/2020 05:37

I do serums, night and day moisturisers and the odd sheet mask. Try to drink plenty of water but that doesn't always work out as coffee tastes better.

Unfortunately though my children have never been the best sleepers and all the lotions and potions can't undo the damage of 6+ years of broken sleep.

I do often get mistaken for younger though so can't be that bad (unless people are just being polite).

EmpressJewel · 24/01/2020 07:21

Yes. Am currently using The Ordinary.

I normally think a basic routine of wash and moisturise is fine, if you have good skin. I'm currently using 8 products😕, but I have problematic skin, and this routine is working for me.

Sunnysidegold · 24/01/2020 07:26

I go through phases. Sometimes I'm going to bed with my makeup on and then other times I'm properly cleansing and moisturising. A bit of exfoliation every few days. Nothing really fancy or expensive but I do use a dearer eye cream.

My skin definitely looks much better and glowy when it's looked after. I am quite bad at drinking water but wear sunscreen .

nocluewhattodoo · 24/01/2020 07:35

I take good care of my skin generally, I don't wear any makeup so I like my skin to look good, and I get complimented on it a lot. I used to use a lot of expensive products like Eve Lom but have switched to using liha ose gidi soap and my skin has never been better. I have a selection of natural cold pressed oils, plus a few moisturisers and serums for hydration from various brands and a fantastic exfoliating mask from beautypie which I buy on repeat.

My diet hasn't been great since Christmas but I haven't suffered anything but the usual hormonal spots I always get.

doadeer · 24/01/2020 19:44

Thanks everyone it's interesting seeing different approaches

Not really. I take my make up off and moisturize occasionally. My skin is never dry.

Best thing I do for my skin is don't smoke or drink.

Lunaballoon · 24/01/2020 20:31

Moisturiser with 30 SPF every day

ColourMyDreams · 24/01/2020 20:32

Yes. I bathe 2-3 times per week with honey in the bath water and use a saucer of normal white sugar for a scrub.
I use pure olive oil soap all over when I shower on a morning.
I'm pushing 60 and my skin is often complimented.
My daughters do the same.

ragged · 24/01/2020 20:37

Define "eat well"

Basically I believe I do absolutely zero. Except I do eat a lot.
My skin is bad, I reckon, if that meets expectations.

Childhood in the sun.

doadeer · 24/01/2020 22:24

Eat well

I meant lots of fresh fruit and veg and fish etc known to be good for skin

Yes but my diet can go a bit to pot if I’m not organised.

I never wanted to be one of those women you see going to beauty counters buying the latest anti wrinkle cream advertised using a 25yo supermodel.

Even as a teenager it all seemed ridiculous.

whydoihavetogothroughsomuch · 24/01/2020 23:17

Is the ordinary good for sensitive skin?

Nandocushion · 24/01/2020 23:26

Water and flannel only to wash. Nivea sometimes. Always sunscreen. Nothing else at all. I have good skin but so does my mother and frankly, we're both fairly enthusiastic drinkers. She's also never used all the stuff I read about on the boards here so I reckon most of it is genetics and sunscreen.

GroggyLegs · 24/01/2020 23:30

I double cleanse, use sunscreen & some The Ordinary products but hands down, the best thing I did for my skin was make a real effort to drink more water.

I'm convinced my makeup stays on better & I have fewer fine lines. The whites of my eyes are definitely clearer too.

Inappropriatefemale · 24/01/2020 23:31

I started a beauty therapy course on Monday at college and I have always moisturised but the importance of cleansing and toning has been emphasised at college this week lots so I’m going to stick to this routine every morning and evening.

Inappropriatefemale · 24/01/2020 23:33

+1000 to the water, the skin works itself from the inside to the out and so water, on top of a skincare routine, is detrimental to the care of our skin.

ClientListQueen · 24/01/2020 23:37

Yes, twice a day

Am
Cleanse, moisturiser, SPF 50

Pm
Cleanse
Then either acids, serum/oil, moisturiser
Retinol, moisturiser

Body I use a shower oil and lotion when dry

Swisskit · 24/01/2020 23:39

Wash face with soap.
Tone with neat witchhazel.
Moisturise with Nivea.

justilou1 · 24/01/2020 23:44

Absolutely! And I wear sunscreen every day religiously, and have since I was 15. I am 48 and my skin looks much younger. I don’t drink or smoke (plus I live in Australia), I drink a lot of water, eat a lot of veg, have a diet high in essential fatty acids & antioxidants and very low in sugar. I have never smoked. I think for skin tone and texture, the biggest difference has been the addition of the Ordinary’s L. Ascorbic (vitamin c) powder which I mix with their hyaluronic serum and use a generous amount from cleavage upwards, right over neck and face, and backs of hands -especially prior to sunscreen application - twice a day. (*This stuff is strong, so when you first start using it, work up from a quarter of the scoop provided, or it may feel a bit stingy!) one of these pots lasts a minimum of six months and I am overly generous. It’s SOOOOO cheap and saves you buying a separate vitamin c serum!!!

HearMeSnore · 24/01/2020 23:45

Things I do:

Wear a hat in the sun.
Wash with a foaming cleanser.
Moisturise with some eczema cream I nicked from DD, which turned out to be the best thing I've ever tried.
Exfoliate when I remember (about once a month).

That is absolutely the maximum effort/expense I'm prepared to go to. I don't drink enough water and my diet is not the healthiest. Fortunately my skin hasn't suffered for it yet...

fantasmasgoria1 · 25/01/2020 01:30

Face wipe to get most of my makeup off, wash with facial wash, tone with glycolic acid or hyaluronic a is the the ordinary retinol serum. In the m moisturise and spf.

Ilovesausages · 25/01/2020 01:50

I do very little.

In the shower in the morning I wash my eye make up off with soap or shower gel.

I moisturise maybe twice a week.

I don’t do anything in the evening.

I don’t wear foundation or powder though. I do protect my skin from the sun. I don’t drink or smoke.

My skin is fine.

I have a theory that sometimes the more we fiddle about with our skin the more problems we see.

Ilovesausages · 25/01/2020 01:52

Should I name change now o have revealed my slovenly ways!?
