GP/111/A&E? Sudden (over the last few days) onset of one sided numbness

cjt110 · 23/01/2020 22:11

Have had worsening hip pain. Saw GP last Thurs who suggested could be arthritis from car accident in 2013. Given naproxen.

Naproxen did nothing. I took codeine which relieved the pain. GP prescribed codeine and refused to do xray as management for arthritis or possible sciatica is the same.

Saw different GP on Weds as not happy who has referred me for physio. Explained i get numbess when sat, from hip bone to foot.

In the last 2/3 days I have noticed increased numbess and tingling if sat a certain way. She suggested could be nerve based.

Now about 2 hours in so far this evening of just resting, walking in house, standing. Numbness (not complete) from hip to foot. Worse from thigh to foot with tingling. Not going with movement or position change and only on the right.

Also noticed last night when laid on the right, my arm/hand also went numb.

My Mum said ring 111. I say may aswell wait until tomorrow and Ill see the GP.

NHS 111 online suggests immediate medical attention due to new medication.

Which is best course of action?

Ring 111. They will signpost you to the most appropriate help as that is what they are there for.

Lindy2 · 23/01/2020 22:18

I would be phoning 111.

It sounds like your symptoms have worsened significantly and I would be wanting advice. I think they may recommend a&e.

Alpacathebag · 23/01/2020 22:19

I would say a&e for this. It could be stroke, mild ischaemic attacks, your medication, or anything!

Jesus woman 999. Now

shoebedobedobedobedoo · 23/01/2020 22:53

A&E dr here. 999 and a&e NOW. Could be a stroke and there is a 4 hour window From the onset of symptoms when you can have treatment that can cure your symptoms. Please go.

nocoolnamesleft · 23/01/2020 22:54

A&E
A local problem in your hip or lower spine does NOT give you numbness in your arm. You need to be properly examined, and may well need scanning.

cjt110 · 23/01/2020 22:55

Could codeine cause this

OP posts:
TokyoSushi · 23/01/2020 22:55

Oh goodness, if 111 dont call back very soon I'd call 999 as well, you're obviously deteriorating at quite a speed.

Hope you're much better very soon Flowers

cjt110 · 23/01/2020 22:56

Im 33. It couldnt be a stroke. Surely b

cjt110 · 23/01/2020 22:56

Could it be the sciatica if its that

OP posts:
nocoolnamesleft · 23/01/2020 22:58

Codeine does not cause this. Sciatica does not cause this.

You need to get to A&E right now.

AlexaAmbidextra · 23/01/2020 23:02

Sciatica does not affect your arms. For goodness sake get to A&E.

MrsMozartMkII · 23/01/2020 23:02

With those symptoms worsening I'd be calling 999.

Hope you're ok.

Hairyfairy01 · 23/01/2020 23:05

Babies / children/ people in their 20's, 30's, 40's can all have strokes.

Wilmalovescake · 23/01/2020 23:05

Haven’t you got quite a complicated medical history? I’m sure I remember your username. I am not sure any of us can really advise you.

EeWellIllGoToTheFootOfOurStair · 23/01/2020 23:07

I doubt you're having a stroke. I too recall your username.

See what 111 say and take their advice

june2007 · 23/01/2020 23:09

How about going into A&E if this is a sudden change. Maybe nothing but maybe seriouse.

cjt110 · 23/01/2020 23:21

I have hydrocephalus, ME and an underactive thyroid.

MinkowskisButterfly · 23/01/2020 23:22

To the person saying you doubt the poster is having a stroke (whilst they are experiencing sudden onset numbness on one side?)...that is dangerous and bloody ridiculous...are you a dr? Have you examined the poster? Nope? Didn't think so.

OP with those symptoms I would be going to A&E immediately.

BettyAll1 · 23/01/2020 23:24

“I’m 33 it couldn’t be a stroke”. Yes it could. Hope you’re in a+e now.

EeWellIllGoToTheFootOfOurStair · 23/01/2020 23:25

LOL. How dramatic are you lot?

She's seen a dr who is not concerned. She's called 111 who will advise.

Are YOU A DR!
