Help! Where to stay for a weekend in Bath?

This is a follow-on thread - I asked for suggestions for a birthday trip for DP. He's picked Bath, which is great, but the only one that didn't include a specific place to stay!

Does anyone know of a lovely B&B / pub with rooms / similar they can recommend. We're country bumpkins (think middle aged farmer DP) so not too posh but it's a birthday treat so something a bit nicer than where we might normally stay IYKWIM would be just perfect.

(I've found a few decent looking AirB&B places but I reckon somewhere proper B&Bish with breakfast would be nice)

No 15 great pulteney street - lovely boutique hotel.

Mrsfussypants1 · 23/01/2020 20:01

We stopped in a log cabin we found on airbnb in Bathgate Bath. It was lovely and such a different experience, I'd love to go back but too many places to tick of our list this year.

Chocs44 · 23/01/2020 20:03

The wheatsheaf at Combe hay is a lovely pub with amazing food and rooms. It's only a 15 -20 min drive into Bath or 10 mins to the park and ride at Odd Down.

Log cabin sounds interesting - but possibly Great Pulteney street & someone else making breakfast might pip it ;)
Any other suggestions?

Also Bathen House Newbridge hill it looks fancy on the website but it's a boutique B and B and has good parking.

Sadik · 23/01/2020 20:06

Actually I think Great Pulteney street might be a bit out of my budget!

We stayed here: www.sunhousebandb.co.uk/mobile.html

Lovely hosts, lovely breakfast. They dropped us in town for our evening out, without charge. And the biggest plus was you can stay for one night, very rare in Bath.

Sadik · 23/01/2020 20:13

Oh that looks like it could be perfect. To be honest if it's really only a 20 mins walk & has parking DP & I would happily pootle into the city centre & back for a night out on foot.

Dukes Hotel great pulnetney Street.
No evening restaurant but awesome breakfast, plenty of places to eat at night within 5 minutes walk. They provide parking permits

Those of you who know Bath well, can you recommend a great restaurant for new year's eve? I'd be very grateful!

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 23/01/2020 20:24

I've stayed in this airbnb. Cute house all to yourself. Lovely hosts.
No breakfast but I'm sure Bath can provide somewhere. And a gin distillery round the corner!

if university holidays, try student accommodation. I went to Bath on a budget at August bank holiday. Central to the city, public car park near by. I loved the look of 15 Great P street but that was well over my budget.

Try Hip lets, we stayed in a beautiful old apartment. If you look on VisitBath website there is a code for Hiplets for a discount. Was great to have a lovely big lounge and kitchen.

Sadik · 23/01/2020 20:36

That's a really good point that we could go out for breakfast! Will add central air B&Bs back into the mix :)

I'd recommend no 15 Great Pulteney too. Relaxed hotel. Good cocktails in a lovely lounge. Great location. Bath is expensive though.

Bellie99 · 23/01/2020 20:51

Dukes hotel is absolutely fantastic. www.dukesbath.co.uk/about-dukes
Carol is a superb host and it feels like home from home. Also you get a parking permit!
Short walk into the town - easy to pop back with shopping bags so you can carry on or go back out for dinner. Circus is lovely for evening meal, as is Sotto Sotto (need to book in advance). V pleasant is aqua bath too.

Shoobydoo123 · 23/01/2020 21:04

We stayed here which was lovely and friendly, nice and convenient but not OTT www.haringtonshotel.co.uk/

The Paradise boutique hotel, a short walk into Bath, not too pricey, excellent hospitality, great breakfasts , nice rooms, good toiletries, homemade brownies and fresh coffee on arrival, lovely

Alwaysfrank · 23/01/2020 21:17

Sadik, we would normally have walked but it was raining cats and dogs!
