How much on a dinner set?

Just that really.

How much would you spend on a set of decent quality:

8 dinner plates
8 side plates
8 bowls

We've been looking at some sets. DH was thinking more £200. The set I've seen is £400. We can afford either, it's just a case of DH thinking the set I've seen is wildly excessive.

Is it? Thoughts?

To add, I've never bought a set before I moved in with DH and he had it all and we've been using his stuff for ten years. And it came from Woolworths so it's been pretty indestructible!

We do have young DC but the shop I've seen the nice set at do some smaller melamine versions so could grab a few bits of that for while they're little and prone to not being careful!

Maybe it’s the dishwasher that break everything (or my Cackhandedness)

I just get mine from Tesco.

I do get pasta bowls though. Got to have more than one type of bowl.

If they can go in a dishwasher, you love them and can afford them, I’d buy them although I might be tempted to get 10 of each to allow for breakages
