whole body tense- is this stress?

I'm constantly got tension in my body especially in my shoulders , neck and head. When I consciously really make an offer effort to relax my body, I can actually feel my shoulders go down a cm or so. My mouth is really tense too! And I've started grinding my teeth at night.

I'm walking around as though I'm constantly constipated! I'm so tense all the time! How can I get myself to relax my actual body.

I does sound like stress, wish I knew how to relax op I am the same

oldmcdonaldhadabarn · 23/01/2020 13:19

Exercise. I'm the same and the only time my shoulders are relaxed is when I exercise regularly. Running sorts it.

I notice the tension if it's been a few days since exercising.

I'm going through this now. Really bad tension in neck and shoulders. Lots of horrible symptoms like tingling and dizziness. I'm sure it's stress. I feel much better if I get to relax (which isn't often!).

Try having a walk in a park a few days a week, a long hot bath, watch a funny film, read a good book, listen to soothing music. Try on of those mindfulness apps maybe.

MrsJoshNavidi · 23/01/2020 13:22

Have you tried having a massage? I find a regular (monthly) deep tissue massage helps a lot.

SallyWD · 23/01/2020 13:25

Oh yes massage! I had 2 recently. They really relaxed me.

katee90 · 23/01/2020 16:16

Have tried listening to any relaxation podcasts?

FromEden · 23/01/2020 17:15

Same problem here. Massage occasionally and listening to meditations (I use the calm app) where it guides you through relaxing and softening each part of your body really help.

Thanks there's quite a few different things I can try. My sleep has been really poor too so wonder if that's contributing to it too.

When you say deep tissue massage are these from a physio or from any beauty therapy type place?

I got to a lady's house. She's a qualified massager (or whatever the word is).

MrsJoshNavidi · 23/01/2020 18:34

Just checked. She calls herself a massage therapist.

I have friends who have massages at home - someone comes to them. But I find it more relaxing to go to her. If I was at home I'd be worrying about the washing up, or the kids would be around, or something.
