Short break to Rome

herbydancer · 23/01/2020 12:24

Have booked a weekend break to Rome for myself and DP for mid April. Really excited as it's our first getaway in years.

I love the idea of exploring Rome but have absolutely no idea where to stay.

Any recommendations for accommodation/hotels would be great! Which area of the city should we be looking to stay in? Are there any parts to seriously avoid?

Hopefully none of you will tell me to avoid Rome, as flights are already booked Grin

I have no helpful info but I am going to Rome in March and saved this thread from a while back, which is full of great advice & tips. This is my reference guide for when I go Smile

Great City but whatever you do, don't plan on seeing it all on a weekend Grin

Rome Is fab fab. Make sure you eat Carbonara and Carciofi alla Giudia. And have aperitifs with aperol Spritzes in cafes and gelati and sliced pizza, the one with potatoes is top! Smile

I stayed here a few years ago. Its easy walking distance to the main sights but not in a noisy area. It was great value for money too.

I would also recommend the trastevere area as well. Really lovely and not too much traffic either.

Oh I don't think that link worked. It's the hotel sant angelo

I stayed near the Repubblica metro station a few weeks ago and it was very convenient for us.

smemorata · 23/01/2020 15:32

The only place I wasn't keen on was Trastevere! Everywhere else was lovely.

Thank you so much everyone! Lots to research and find out about. Will try and keep in mind that we wont manage to see everything in a weekend!

I'm going to Rome on the 12th April! So exciting 😁 Definite plans include all the obvious ones like the Vatican, Coliseum, Trevi fountain etc but ALSO I found another major attraction as a crazy cat lady.

Torre Argentina cat sanctuary - ruins of an old theatre in the centre of Rome where they reckon Caesar was assassinated, but they now have cats roaming (Romeing?) all over! So definitely add that to your list if you're a cat person like me 😂

Aaahhh I love Rome. It gets into your soul Smile

We stayed in a gorgeous loft apartment 2 minutes walk from the Pantheon. It was lovely.

Out at the mo but I will come back with some food etc reccs from our last trip back in October.
