Adult scooters??

Hi All, just looking for opinions here!

I am currently doing a weekly commute from the city where I live, to another city for work (200 miles away). I stay there for 4 days and stay with my parents 3 nights (1 hr away from work).

My problem is the classic "last mile problem". It takes 40 mins to walk to the train station from home (~2 miles), and 15 minutes from the train to work, and another 15 from train to my parents house... I have dodgy knees and all this walking has me in agony...

So I'm thinking, should I get a scooter? I keep seeing people on the adult e-scooters, and have tried them on holiday in Berlin, and thought they were great! I know they're currently illegal though (although likely to change) so could alternatively get a kick scooter, which I think would be better than walking but not as good as electric...

What do you think? Which would be more useful? And do adults on scooters look like prats??

@TheLidoOfThighs, oh I ride my very customised very "me" bike all over town. I own the shit out of it, but I think scootering round Bumblefuck, wearing lights on my person would have the locals thinking I'm a witch and burn me at the stake.

I have an electric scooter and it's great! I used it around town when I was pregnant and had SPD and could barely walk, made me feel normal again!

Don't bother what anyone thinks, it sounds like the ideal solution for you. Besides, there are loads of them in London.

Thanks all, you've convinced me! I've ordered my electric scooter! Will be sure to get some lights for on my body (I have bike lights but they clip on the bike).
another question then - do I need a lock for it?
And - do you wear a helmet? (bike helmet?)

Interested to know how you get on with it!

Helmets - some people do, some people don’t, same as with bikes. If you would personally wear one on a bike, then I would say the same logic would apply to wearing one on a scooter?

Lock - I very rarely lock up my Brompton these days, I tend to just take it with me. The lock is another thing to carry. I think it entirely depends on where you will go and how practical it is to take it in with you.

TheLidoOfThighs · 24/01/2020 10:36

But obviously don’t leave it out unlocked! There’s one recommended on the Pure website. I couldn’t quite visualise how it worked as the locking point on the scooter looked a bit dubious to me, but see what you think!

Well I've just collected it today! Set it up and scooted up and down the road and very happy so far :)
Will see how it goes riding it to the station tomorrow carrying a rucksack and taking it on the train! Have got lights and d-lock ready!
