When did you stop using stairgates?

DGS has worked out how to get over the gate. Grab the top, grip the bars halfway up with your toes, reach over, bend double and flip. He's 2y5mo, and as mad as a box of frogs. We took the gate down immediately, before he went to A&E. Again.

Have you considered a dog gate instead? They're much higher than a baby gate.
I always used a dog gate due to the dogs. Still do.
When mine were toddlers they found them impossible to climb over.

2yrs3months. When she learnt to climb them and climb out the cot.

I took down our gate three months ago when DD was 2.5. It's been absolutely fine.

She still sleeps in a cot (and believes it's impossible to climb out of a cot - as I've told her that when I've seen her trying!) so I'm at least not worried about her roaming the house while I'm asleep!

I have a rule that if I'm in the shower she has to stay upstairs and so far she's been good about that.

I'm not worried about her falling down the stairs as she's quite careful so I suppose my hesitation was more that the gate was good for containment purposes.

We considered a dog gate, but it would probably only last another 6 months. He can get onto the kitchen table by pulling up and heelhooking, a 5b move if ever there was one. INeedNewShoes: that's encouraging, thanks.

We've just got rid of ours and our youngest is 4. We just got used to it being there and never got around to taking it off!
