Cheaper places to rent long term in Cornwall.

I'd love to live near the coast but I'm a minimum wage kind of girl, so I'm after some advice of a still pleasant but cheaper place to rent to live in Cornwall.

I'm after a slow quiet place of life.

Any recommendations?

Mullion is fairly reasonable , close to coast and a pleasant little village

CheddarGorgeous · 22/01/2020 20:52

Assume you would also need a job in this place?

DoggieCuddler · 22/01/2020 21:03

Probably at part time job.

How about Par, near St Austell?

Kernowgal · 22/01/2020 22:25

Helston, Redruth, Camborne, Torpoint - basically get on Rightmove and search for ‘Cornwall’ in the rental section, and it’ll show you where’s cheapest.

Jobs can be very seasonal and often minimum wage.

And don’t forget that during school holidays it’s anything but quiet!

Kernowgal · 22/01/2020 22:27

Bodmin! Forgot about Bodmin. Cheap for a reason though.

absopugginglutely · 23/01/2020 00:09

We lived in stenalees a China clay village near the Eden project. Cheap but close to beaches (a bike ride away)

absopugginglutely · 23/01/2020 00:10

Par= depressing
Bodmin= depressing

Waterandlemonjuice · 23/01/2020 00:11

Par is awful!

CheddarGorgeous · 23/01/2020 05:59

OP asked for a coastal location. Cheaper places like Bodmin are not coastal!

OP the problem is that cheap coastal area don't have lots of jobs locally. That's why they are cheap! Do you drive and would you be willing to drive longish distances for work?

Kernowgal · 23/01/2020 08:41

Nowhere is far from the coast in Cornwall! Par is not depressing. Ok, Bodmin is unlovely, I’ll give you that.

Cheap and coastal rarely co-exist - there’s a reason why poorer people in Cornwall live along the central spine. Penzance is coastal and cheaper but work may be hard to come by. Falmouth is busy but students have pushed the house prices up and working friends who live there find that landlords prefer to rent to students.

CheddarGorgeous · 23/01/2020 10:16

Falmouth is expensive.

OP can you clarify by what you mean by "coastal"? Walk or drive to the beach?

SpaceCadet4000 · 23/01/2020 12:02

Can you define a price band for cheaper?

Meruem · 23/01/2020 13:22

You'll struggle I'm afraid. I wouldn't say Cornwall is "cheap" anymore. My Dsis lives there and needs to move. She is looking in some pretty grotty places, as she's also on minimum wage, and even there is struggling to find any one beds under £900 a month. She found one the other day for £600 (tiny and run down) and it was snapped up before she even got to view.

DoggieCuddler · 23/01/2020 21:14

By coastal I mean as close as I can get for my money and within 45 min drive. Obs would live to walk out the door onto the beach but a millionaire I'm not, so.

Rent around 500. There are some on the right move type websites but it's always useful to get opinions too.

Got people in Newquay that would give me a job but I don't like the town itself that much.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll have a search through them.
